Default Hardware for tuning Chrome.

Yes, I have done a search. I got a few friends that want me to tune their setups that are currently on Chrome. I am not looking to get into tuning Chrome, but I don't mind helping my homeboys out.

So I am probably going to end up getting the Innovative LC-1 Wideband kit since it's the cheapest.

What is the most affordable romulator out there? Also I need a burner as well.

Is the Moates Ostrich the most affordable out there? I've looked into the Wilem or whatever burners and they seem to all be using Parrallel ports. Do they have a USB one or is the Moates Burn 1 the only USB burner out there.

It is spelt Crome.... not Chrome

I used crome with the ostrich and no burner. I just unplugged the ostrich from my pc and it held the data just fine.

I would recommend:
Moates Burn1
Moates Ostrich
Any 0-5 volt output wideband (I use the aem uego)

http://phearable.net/tech/efibeginnerguide.html shows a picture of a simular setup.

Yep the plx devices are badass...i have a r500...wished i went cheaper on the lower modles...i dont really use all the crap they give me with the 500...

I also use hondlog from moates for datalogging...never had an issue..and of course the ostrich (nice romulator)...

The burn1 is optional if you have an ostrich...but i recommend getting one so you dont have to leave that hunk plastic box in your car...just burn the chip and install and your good to go!

I'm sure RTP is avail through the free version. Datalogging is not avail through the regular crome.

I've been using crome and a romulator for almmost 3 years works great...The pocket programer, U'll need the software it comes with to burn chips.

RTP is avail. through the free version. Crome pro adds the option to datalog and a few more option buttons..

If you plan on using crome, I highly suggest U visit PGMFI.org.. And frequantly, there are always new developements and pluggins being worked on .

Has anyone gotten the LC-1 to work well with Crome? I have read that some people have had issues with it as well. It is just soo affordable you know.

RTP works on crome regular, but datalogging will save your *** - need Crome pro for that.

I recommend AGAINST the innovate LC1 and other widebands that lack a display. Voltage offset is a real problem - the differing ground and power signals feeding things causes the voltage coming out of the wideband to not quite be what it should. Powering the wideband off the ECU's power causes weird results, etc. etc. A wideband with a display lets you power the wideband off a cig lighter or right off the battery, datalog, compare results from datalogging with what wideband display says and properly calibrate things.

I agree that voltage offset can be a pain...but like anything, all you need to do is set it up and double check the display to what is being displayed in Crome versus what the LC-1 is actually reading. Do this very easily by connecting the LC-1 to a laptop via serial port (or USB to serial convertor) and display the ACTUAL AFRs on screen via Innovate FREE LogWorks software....

Do this until you figure what the best 'offset' works in your car and go with that. Using Crome's tuning features you can get VERY close to the desired AFRs you are after...then tweak from there using the laptop as a display and a friend (to drive for you).

The LC-1 however is a PERMANENT install...I mean it doesnt have to be but really it is. The LM-1 is more of a non-permanent install and great for tuning multiple vehicles...

BTW, I have complete packages for OBD1 ECU Tuning right on the front page of my site...

http://www.xenocron.com

Tuner Package #1 or #2 should work nicely for you...be advised the Ostrich is out of stock until the end of the month however.

i have the moates datalogger and pocket romulator and pocket programmer for chip burner. this is just due to me tuning hondata though.

i can datalog with crome, but regardless of what version i download and click my heals, etc. I just can't get it to datalog & real-time update with the romulator. I don't even use a serial to USB cable for the romulator and it doesn't work. the Hondlug has a built in USB and works fine... go figure, works for hondata, not for crome. Either way, i use the Xrontic software for the romulator and just have to wait a few minutes between real-time updates.

I have the following and they have all worked great for me:

Moates BURN1 Burner
Moates HULOG Datalogging Setup
PLX M-300 Wideband

They have all never failed to work for me. I also have the wideband and narrowband outputs of the PLX wired to a switch and then wired into the ECU for easy switching between open/wideband and closed/narrowband.

Crome
Moates BURN1
Moates Ostrich
Innovate LM-1

What I'd suggest if you plan on tuning multiple vehicles, is an OBD-I -to- OBD-I extension harness for quick exposure to the appropriate DL wires (IAT, ECT, RPM, TPS etc..). Unless of course you DL through Crome in which case you just need to run the WB02 signal through the ECU.

Seems one of the latest versions of Crome has an issue with PUT and the ROMulator...if you upload the BIN via the ROMulator software and then only use the UPDATE TABLES or Live Update via Crome...then it works.

On past versions of Crome I was able to use both effectively...although the ROMulator is still much more touchy than the Ostrich.

even funnier is that the romulator is even more touchy with its own software.

I too am wondering about doing some tuning. What is a good setup to use.

What about this setup.
Moates burn1
innovate lc-1

Anything else needed?
