Running into problems with Koni Red installation on 88 CRX
Alright, I bought a set of Koni Reds for my CRX and finally got around to installing them. I'm a total noob when it comes to this stuff.
The brake line bracket on the fronts (and maybe on the rears, I'm not sure) is welded on to the stock shock body (pics at the end of the post). All the write-ups I've seen show the brackets as rings that you hammer off... I'm planning on just using tie wraps, but if you have any other ideas let me know.
The front Konis didn't come with bump stops. The rears did. Now the stock fronts didn't have any either, so I don't know if they're just not needed or what...
Also, my spring compressors dented up the dust covers so they won't slide over the shocks.. I think I'll just use some rubber boots from Autozone, but again I'm a noob and there might be a better way.
The pics show what I'm dealing with. Other than the bottom spring cup the pics show all the Konis shipped with. So help a poor noob out, especially about the bump stops. Thanks..

those "stock" shocks you have dont look stock, kinda interesting.
but dont worry about the brake line collar. just use 2 zip ties. one around the brake line, the other around the shock and interlocking.
yeah, those spring compressors kinda blow, i gotta admit they are hard to use. not many other available options tho. so i know what you mean about denting the dust cover. youll be fine without em really, but try to do something if possible and not too much trouble. steering rack boots work well too.
reuse your old bumpstops. if you have any. if you dont, well, id find some, even if youe reusing the stock springs.
make sure you reassemble the tapered washer thingy that was on the stock shock. you really dont need the thin black washer tho.
you seem to be doing fine since this is your first time. youre asking the right questions.

This is the only part of your post I didn't really get... not quite sure what the "tapered washer thingy" is, haha.

Well I got the fronts on, and just used the bump stops off the rear shocks.. I'm gonna try and contact Koni about getting another set of stops for the rears.
I fon't know what those black shocks are but they aren't stock OE '88 CRX for sure. The more I look at them, the more I am guessing Gabriels. I have never seen that opposing side bolt thing ever before. That is probably why you also don't have a bump rubber with them.
I am surprised that the rear shocks came with bump rubbers, I did not know that any of the CRX/Civic units other than RACE came with bump rubber. You might check the part number to confirm it is correct (8040-1078). Call the tech line at Koni 859-586-4100 Option 6 and tell Stoney or Bob that Lee said to call about getting a pair of bump rubbers as I will be unavailable in meetings for the next several days. They are not specific to your car (or we would have supplied them in the first place) but they can give you something to work with that is better than not having one at all. They may be on the slightly long side at which point you can trim them down a bit from the blunt end.
I just installed some KONI RACE on my '88 CRX today and trimmed the bumps tops down with a carpet knife.
