Default Installed: obx lsd (h22)

Best 500 bucks ive ever spent. this unit works great. as of now it has 1000 miles on it and no problems yet (kinda soon) i busted an axel so im pullin them this week and putting in some new ones so that will be the real test on this unit to check if they really fixed the problem they were having right now.

ditto! i like the price of the obx, but from what i've read they make axle replacement a bit of a problem. and i was always curious if they bolted up perfect or needed some machining or anything like that. obx doesn't exactly make the most perfect fit, at least my parts have not fit without modification.

no problems what so ever. just had to take the dif to honda to get the old one pressed out. box was in great shape not a scratch on it. the diff was packed very tightly. no complaints at all from me. went ahead and replaced a few bearings. batta bing batta boom i have lsd. like i said no complaints at all. all problems are supposed to be fixed at this point and time and i will find out this week when i replace the busted axle i will find out if they are hard to get out or not

It's a torsen differential, like the Quaife.

Matt, I assume you are referring to me.

Me and a buddy tried to install one of there LSD's on his b16 powered del sol. Things didn't go so well when trying to get the axels out. I can understand problems, but OBX refused to acknowledge the problem, and after inspecting it said it was "fine". So, I hope you have better luck with your unit.

I can tell you that I never regretted spending the few extra bucks on the quaife after that.

I've always lived by this when buying car parts...........If you can afford to fork out the few hundred extra bucks to get what you KNOW is going to work and be the best you can get, then DO IT! If you can't afford to, then you're not done saving for it yet, and most likely you'll end up paying for it later anyway.

I'm not saying that yours is going to break or anything, I genuinely hope it works great for you, because if it does continue to work great for you and everyone else (like the QUAIFE), then maybe i'll look into getting it. But it is hard for me to get the OBX name brand, hearing some of the things i've heard about a lot of their products. But like i said, i really hope this works out for you.

LSD (AKA- Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds) is that stuff you shoot up and it makes everything in your world look like a disco ballroom. it benifits cars by temporarily making them appear to look better. the effects will wear off though.

this isnt like i went out and priced two parts (the obx and the qaiffe) and went with the cheaper one. i did a lot of research. i talked to 2 people here in town that both have them and they have had no problems taking axles out or the unit tearing up the tranny. and if this thing tears up my tranny well then ill be against obx just like the rest of you. but im willing to take that chance. so ill see what happens

thing is, you can search on here or other prelude forums and find 4 ppl who have had bad issues with the obx.

would knowing that have changed your decision?

i guess if you just do some normal driving around, shouldn't be a problem.

risk analysis is helpful in situations like this

a $500 transmission ruined + the $500 for the obx lsd + the $800 to get a quiafe in your new transmission= $1800
a quiafe lsd- $800

i dont think the potential $300 in savings is worth the risk...

but do let us know how it turns out, dont contort my skepticism of obx products into me wanting your stuff to break, i hope it turns out well for you

if the obx lsd is disassembled and cleaned lubed and retorqued then it may be ok, i have seen several people purchase these in the FI forum, all of the bolt holding the lsd together are at different tightness, from finger tight to so tight the bolt holes had been striped. additionally the tensioning washers inside the lsd are not always put in the correct orentation as this will result in noise and premature wear. if i got one i would disassemble it and redo everything someone could possibly screw up.

Just sold one of my spair trannies to a buddy 37 miles on the OBX H22 lsd. Pretty much junked the whole trans. IMO Id save up and get the quiafe . The unit was installed correctly. Its just a bad sign when the installer warned him to just stay away from OBX because of prior experiences with OBX lsd unit.
