Kawi riders and mechanics - Broken A** Bike
Ok, it's been 5 months, all my bones are in one piece again, and since the season is here, it's time to get back in the saddle.
Problem is, the saddle ain't goin anywhere, and I'm busted for ideas
Here's the skinny: 2003 Ninja 250. When I went down, I was in 3rd. I came to an abrupt stop, and the bike stayed in 3rd. It had a large impact on the shift shaft (the shift lever was pretzeled). After some fiddling, I accidentally got it from 3rd to Neutral. It still wouldn't shift though.
I cracked the case, and found the top spring had fallen off the over-shift protection lever, and that the shift fork had fallen off the drum. I got that situated, put the clutch back on just as I found it.
Now, I can go from first to neutral with ease, but 2nd up is a no go. Plus, I've lost the clutch. I get normal action in the cable, but the plates seem to be locked up.
Any ideas?

With that hard of an impact, Im sure The shift forks are bend just enough to restrict shifting, I would look into finding anther set of gears and giving that a try. The parts in the tranny are very precise, In fact im replacing all the gears in a 03 GSXR 600 right now, Second gear has no teeth and The forks are toast!

Eh, I only spent 1200 on this one, and I've ridden it through it's worth to me. If it is going to cost me more than 15% of that to fix, I don't find it worth while.
Rainman is probably right about just replacing the internals, as much as I didn't want to hear it. There is a moto junkyard a little up the road, I guess I'll just have to check with them.
It is just odd though. 1st gear acts just as it should (save the clutch, which has to be my fault, because it was working before I took it off). I just can't figure out why it won't go higher.

check to make sure the shift lever/ and linkage arent sticking.... my 954 went down and the linkage would press into first and then wouldnt shift up.... what i had to do is seperate the 2 pieces and lube them up....
you see... when u push the shifter into first it springs up a very little bit which allows it to move ot the next gear... if you push it down... and it cant go up any further... then it wont shift...
its a long shot... maybe also be a shift fork.... LOTS of time and labor go into tranny work.... look for a new one on ebay? or maybe just upgrade to a different bike?....
hope the bike recovers as well as you did
