How's the quality of dynomax compare to Magnaflow?
I wonder if anyone had experience with Dynomax mufflers and resonators etc... In my area, magnaflow is not popular, dynomax is more widely used. My concern is the quality, will it be durable?
thanks
thanks
From personal expereince i would say yes. I had a dynomax universal ultraflo stainless steel mufler on my 95 tercel. Had the mufler put on in 95, took it off in 2000 when i bought my ITR and sold it to a friend with an older civic. He still has it on his car and it looks like new and still sounds good, basically it has lasted for about seven years and still looks like it just came out of the box. Just my 2 cents.
I've built most all of my systems with the Magnaflow stuff. Leaning towards the 22" resonator and the 4x9 muffler. I built my own resonator about 2 weeks ago that we tried on Warren's car with just a turn down and it seemed louder than the Magnaflow. We also tried a resonator from another manufacturer that had a different tone to it but I then used it on a test system with an additional muffler, from the same manufacturer, and it was loud. I'll probably be doing another system in the next week or so and may try a chambered muffler on that one or at least set it up to use it or the regular Magnaflow.
My feelings on these systems is that I don't like them loud or raspy and I don't like big tips. The last system I built had a 2-3/4" OD tip. It seems to me that most of these systems available right now will all sound pretty much the same since they all look like they use 2 resonators and the final just has a big tip on it. Now the Kakimoto R has a larger muffler than most of them but I haven't heard one in person.
Exhausts are kinda funny since everyone has their own opinions as to what is important. I believe the one that unleashes the most power but is the quietest is the best, but I don't think we are there yet. Then everyone has their own idea of what is loud and what is not. I think if you are ever concerned that you might get pulled over for sound then you are too loud. Then some folks are only concerned with how the can/tip look and nothing else. Another concern is weight.
It's just near impossible to get a super light weight, quiet, high flowing, durable and quiet exhaust. Oh yeh, plus the consumer wants it to be about $500 or less.
If you go for light weight then in most cases you will loose long term durability because something may crack over time. High flowing will get you something louder. A quiet exhaust will in almost all cases be heavier or at least the resonator and mufflers will be. I don't think many of you are willing to pay for electronic sound cancellation equipment so we'll all have to give up some characteristics in lieu of others. The heavier walled tubing (16g vs 18g) will cut down some noise but all may not be happy with the extra 32% tubing weight gain (1.69lb/ft vs 1.283 lb/ft). But I know that on my race cat I use 2-1/2 18g mild steel straight tubin with a side exit in front of the RR tire and the tubing is all bent up from rocks being thrown into from the front tires. I don't think the consumers would be happy with the tubing around the gas tank being all dented up after a year or so.

No and I don't care what they are for, if they work then.... Half of you guys would choke if you knew where I got my last trial resonator and muffler from.
But I know a guy in Charlotte who owns a muffler shop and he told me the Flowmasters don't last more than 2 years so that answered the question for me.

Flowmasters don't have any packing!
They are junk and don't make any power....go for a good straight thru. Magnaflow and Dynomax are two of the best.

What about a Borla muffler? I have only heard good things about them, but non of the import guys seem to know much about them. I can get a good deal and they are a straight through, stainless muffler. Just like Magnaflow. Does anybody have any thoughts on Borla?
