hey guys ive searched this and couldnt find crap. anyways when you flood your engine do you really have to buy new spark plugs? because the people who did my swap told me i had to get new ones from starting the car too much and flooding it.. also when its flooded and you take out the spark plugs and crank it how much fuel will shoot out? is it safe to do it in a garage and can i just put a towel over it?? any help would be great. thanks, mike

I doubt you would have to buy new plugs. If anything air dry them if they are "wet" with fuel.

With a Fuel injection setup you shouldn't touch the accel pedal at all when starting. I would think its hard to "flood" the engine. Makes me suspect of the folks doing your swap.

If its flooded and you take out the plugs why would you crank it? It acomplishes nothing. If you are having problems starting it check for spark, sounds like you have enough fuel.

besides if you are checking for fuel delivery you would check fuel pressure or maybe use a screwdriver on the fuel injector to your ear and hear if its "clicking"

 

just remove the FI fuse so that no fuel is delivered when you crank the engine...on my EM1 it's fuse 15A but I don't know what car you have...and no fuel will "shoot out" if you crank it with FI still on, you'll just smell gas, I guess it just sits on the pistons until you start it up again.

 

well its a del sol with an h22 swap..

 

yeah, I'm not sure what fuse you'll have to pull, but it should be labeled on top of the fuse box...

 

already checked the ecu fuse and its fine. and what am i checking for with the efi fuse? thanks

 

Actually I had this problem before, and when it is flooded if you can crank with the throttle wide open it should clear it out unless it is real bad. Also your injectors or injector seals are prolly suspect.

Is it a stock 22? or is it modded, and if so what mods?

Actually, I had this problem when we were trying to find out why my car wouldn't start. (The Dizzy was bad.) Anyways, after repeated cranking, it actually did get "Flooded", somewhat. If you take out the plugs and crank the engine, all of the extra fuel that has collected will blow out the holes. So, its not like it won't acomplish anything.

exactly what i ment... if im getting spark and i just put a new cap on the dist would it still cause my car not to start?

 

May sound stupid, but make sure the plug wires are in the right order from the Dizzy.
