5th gen rear engine mount?
just wondering if anyone knew why, on manual transmission models, 94-97 accord dx/lx rear engine mounts are different than 94-97 ex rear engine mounts?
Harder (higher) Durometer* values (stiffer dampening medium) I would think.

* What is durometer?
Durometer is a measure of surface resistivity or material hardness. There are various instruments or gauges used to test durometer. Acor's durometer measurements are given in the " Shore A" scale. Actual product durometer readings can vary by 5 units (+ or -). Use these measurements as a guide to the RELATIVE softness of our materials.

I think so too, P.
The EX 5spd rear mounts are kind of shapped like the 5th gen automatic tranny rear mounts, just without the vacuum controlled diaphram actuator. Why? My guess is for comfort reasons. Maybe that mount design provides better dampening/comfort.
But the EX mounts look so much weaker than LX/DX mounts and if you wanted to stiffen them up, Prothane (the only company I can find that makes rear inserts for our cars) only makes the inserts for the LX/DX mounts.
I am going through the painstaking task of swapping out my EX rear mount and bracket for a LX rear mount and bracket because I'm soon to be turbo'd and want to eliminate as much wheel hop as I can, and also because I might have to lose the front mount with the way my manifold is designed so I solidified the rear and side mounts in hopes of compensating for the front, kind of like h22 swapped Civics that have only aftermarket rear and side mounts.

LX mount after:

However, I just picked up a cheap Harbor Frieght 4.5" angle grinder with metal cutting and grinding wheels so I may be able to keep some of my front mount.

Let's Find out:
'97 LX (manual)
B 50827-SM4-000 / BRACKET, RR. ENGINE MOUNTING (MT)
M 50810-SV4-000 / MOUNTING ASSY., RR. ENGINE (MT)
'97 LX (auto)
B 50827-SM4-J83 / BRACKET, RR. ENGINE MOUNTING (AT)
M 50810-SV4-J82 / RUBBER, RR. ENGINE INSULATOR (AT)
'97 EX (manual)
B 50827-SV4-J00 / BRACKET, RR. ENGINE MOUNT (MT)
M 50810-SM4-J03 / RUBBER, RR. ENGINE INSULATOR (MT)
'97 EX (auto)
B 50827-SM4-J83 / BRACKET, RR. ENGINE MOUNTING (AT)
M 50810-SV4-J82 / RUBBER, RR. ENGINE INSULATOR (AT)
Conclusions:
Automatic versions of both B1 (EX) and B2 (LX) use the same Bracket & Mount.
Manual version do not. They share nothing between the four samples.

I hear ya. But it can't be as bad as my experience doing an auto to manual transmission conversion solo.
I really wish I would have done this mount swap when I did my auto to manual transmission conversion 2 yrs ago, it would have been so simple w/ the tranny out but at the time I was no where near close to thinking about going turbo.
