I just got a set of HX rims and was wondering what kind of tires I should wrap the rims in. I have no clue when it comes to tires.

Some info:

Completey stock automatic, 1996 Civic EX coupe
Live in socal, so we have great weather.
No type of racing at all, just a daily driver/commuter.
The last set i had was some shitty *** tires from wal-mart that were like $30 a piece. I hydro-planed and did a 360 in the rain last year, wrecked my front-end and trying not to repeat that again.
Basically I want tires that are the "best bang for the buck"


Also, I remember reading a few threads awhile back about HX rims not fitting directly onto EX coupes? Is there any truth to this, if so what can I do to resolve this.

HX wheels do not fit directly on EXs, the front brakes are too large. ive heard if you add a 10mm or so spacer they fit fine, just needed that little bit to clear the calipers.

as far as good tires, ive seen Yokohama ES100s recommended many times as great performance both wet and dry for the money, with good treadwear and availability in 14" for the hx rim. im sure you will get other suggestions as well

the hxs dont fit on ex's cuz the offset of the rims are 50 instead of 45 so the spokes on the hxs will hit the caliper.. so u would need a 5mm spacer or shave the caliper a little.. and yeah es100s would be a good choice.. or u could go with a cheaper none performance tire but stay with the name brand companies

yeah the offset is 50.. so it comes in more instead of sticking out more.. thats the need of the spacer or shaving..

 

thanks alot Joon and Voyage, got the caliper problem squared away, my dad figured he would place 1/2 inch washers on the lugs to get space between the hub & rim. the wheel turns fine, but i was wondering will there be any downsides to this? i havn't tried driving the car yet.

as for the tires, since it came with 2 brand new tires I'm going to replace the rear two with a falken ziex 502 I have laying around and probably buy an identical one. i'll look into the yoko es100's when I'm done with this set of tires. thanks again

 

i dont know about washers.. might be able to work for a little bit till u shave or get get real spacers..
