Default Spoon Sports VTEC Controller or A'PEX VAFC?

My first post on this site - so hi everyone. My query is this: I have this Spoon Sports VTEC Controller VC 3E (bought second hand) but not set it up yet. I'm holding on because I want to know whether the Apexi VAFC would be a better and safer (for the engine) option for me. My aims are: to bring the high cam in earlier, about 4500 -4600 revs and release a few more BHP. With the Spoon unit I know the second aim is out of the question but I'm attracted to it's simplicity. Anyway I'd appreciate anyone's view or experience with either of these units. Thanks.

I don't know much about the Spoon Controller, but I assume it only changes VTEC engagement...whereas the Apexi v-afc allows you to modify the fuel % also. If this is the case, then go with the Apexi.

The Spoon Sports is just a VTEC controller. It is nice because it includes a plug and play wiring harness. However, IMO, it is dangerous to change where the hi cam kicks in without also adjusting the fuel accordingly.

Just be aware that to get maximum benefit from the Apex'i unit, you will have to shell out some pounds for dyno time, as the Apex'i unit comes w/ so many bells and whistles...

Yorkshire, YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks very much for your responses guys. From what I've read the V-AFC is at the end of the 'mods to do list' so it can wait awhile. As for the Spoon Sports VTEC Controller, I think I'll take advice from the local Honda Tuning outfit before trying it out.
For anyone wanting to know a bit more about installing the V-AFC here's a link to the North Texas Prelude Owners Group site. Sorry if you've seen it before. Thanks again.

If you decide to go with the Apexi unit, also check out this resource: http://www.members.aol.com/ryoucold/...pexi/apexi.htm
