Heater Fan Motors & Intermitant Speedos
hey all -
i recently bought a used 1995 DX Civic with 155K on the odometer.
so far so good as these are amazinly stout cars for their size and age.
mine has 2 qwirks that I'd like to sort out with your help.
1) the speedometer works most of the time but when it'sold usually it sits at zero and doesn't catch for a while and then may bang on and off for a while - what;s happening there and can I do an easy fix?
2) the heater fan motor switch works on positions 3 & 4 but not on 1 & 2 - is there a separate fuse for the different hi / lo speeds? or??
thanks for your help.

i dont know if its the same on a 90 crx, but my speedo did the same and replaced the speedo cable and it corrected it. and on the blower, sounds like you have a bad blower resistor. could be a control head switch, but more than likely the resistor.
1) take off the guage cluster and clean the contacts to all the connectors in the back. its probably just a dirty electrical contact.
2) the resistor assembly to the heater coil is broken. one of the resistor leads broke off. common problem. youre going to need a new one, you cant really fix the old one. getting one from the junkyard is cheap. take off the glovebox, its right behind it. youll see a 1x2" plate with 2 phillips screws with an electrical connector. thats all you need to replace. youll see how fragile they are.
