Default Brake upgrades

I thought I would do some minor brake system upgrades prior to a few track events this year to my bone stock '98 ITR
Was thinking the following:
Porterfield R4S pads
ATE Super Blue fluid
Goodridge SS Brake Lines

Ok, to post your experience with the products, but is there a "preferred"
online supplier to get the stuff from?
Thanks!!!

panther plus fronts (carbotech eng.)

stock rears or something cheap

ATE super blue (R&D has some)

no need for the lines, but if you really want them R&D has some of those too.

use ate super blue (from ogracing.com, i think that's the website)
stock brake lines.

went tracking this weekend, and brakes got that mushy feel towards the end of the day. i think i may need some ss brakelines. pads vurra dusty though. all in all, works for me!!!

sounds good, but i'd hold off the SS lines. Unless you plan maintain 'em quite frequently.

I guess just cleaning them off so that no dirt etc.. get into the grooves of the lines. Also making sure that the lines aren't rubbing on anything.

I have this exact setup. I really don't feel like the ss lines were a big improvement, but I'm not sure. A lot of people don't like the R4ses, but mine didn't fade on me after a weekend at VIR, which I understand is easy on brakes, and, being my first track event, I wasn't brakeing really hard either. On the streets, the R4ses are the shizzle though. The initial bite is really fun.

Thanks!

R4S would make an excellent street/auto-x/some track events, pad. Some other popular choices would be Hawk HP+/HPS and Axxis Ultimates.

Thanks for the input, I might try the Hawk HP+ pads.
I think I am going to get them from nipponpower.com, since they have the
Goodridge brake lines as well.

I think the SS lines are a good investment. The stock rubber lines would lose their flexibility after experiencing enough heat. That would make your brake pedal feels so mushy even with fresh fluid.

R4s pads are kinder to cold rotors. R4 pads will eat stock rotors for lunch - I highly suggest Brembo OEM replacements that have been cryo or heat treated. Both R4s and R4 dust heavily (not so good for cars with white rims).

The best braking improvements for the R can be realized with better pads, fluid and some sort of ducting of air to the rotors. Many people will remove the dust shields in an effort to improve cooling - but they are made of such a thin metal (not a large heat sink) that I doubt their removal improves things much. Ducting is only necessary if pads/fluid don't solve fade in high temp situations.

not sure why, buy my front brakes were mushay at the end of the saturday. Thought it was the fluids, but a complete flush twice didn't help matters on sunday. I still ran w/ mushay brakes and even improved my times by 3 sec from the previous day - juju.

the car is recuperating from two days of track fun, but hopefully I'll get out of work soon enough tonite to inspect the brake system to find the cause of my brake woes.

yshi - whose sick of braking issues
