NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Series ESPN2 Schedule announced (includes sportsman coverage)
NHRA XPLOD SPORT COMPACT RACING TO RETURN TO ESPN2 WITH ENHANCED SHOWTIMES
GLENDORA, Calif. – The NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Racing Series will be returning to ESPN2 for the 2006 season with 18 total race telecasts, which include original and repeat programming.
“Our partnership with ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports, provides an incredible exposure opportunity for sponsors and teams involved with the NHRA Xplōd series,” says NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Racing’s general manager Josh Peterson. “The 2006 TV schedule allows fans of the series to follow the premier sport compact teams in the country at all events.”
Nine NHRA Xplōd series races will be shown in one-half hour telecasts. This year five of the telecasts will have lead-ins that coincide with existing drag racing programs, like American Dragster, NHRA 2day, and the Lucas Oil Drag racing series. The telecasts will include the pro-category eliminations (Pro RWD, Pro FWD, Hot Rod, Modified, and Honda Tuning All Motor). The two Pro RWD events held in conjunction with the POWERade Drag Racing Series events at Indianapolis and Topeka will be shown during a telecast of Inside Drag Racing.
For the grassroots racing enthusiast, ESPN2 will be expanding the coverage of the NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Racing Series to include the final rounds of the sportsman races (Urbanracer.com Sport FWD, Sport RWD, Quick 16, and BFGoodrich Tires Street Stock) during the telecast.
“Expanding our coverage of the events to include the sportsman events will allow fans to follow the chase for the newly announced Regional Sportsman Championship program,” said Peterson.
Returning to the announcing booth will be Kenny Sargent, co-host of the nationally syndicated radio show “SpeedFreaks,” experienced drag racing announcer Bruno Massel, and the beautiful and talented Jessica Barton.
In addition to the Xplōd Sport Compact Racing telecasts, ESPN2 will be dedicating 20 separate original and repeat telecasts for the NHRA Xplōd Stylefest. The Stylefest will include NHRA Tuner Car Show, which offers the best sport compact show cars, Q Power NHRA Dyno Challenge, NHRA Sound Challenge presented by Sony Xplōd, the Modified Magazine NHRA Bikini Xhibition, concerts by today’s hottest artists and other extreme sports exhibitions.
Each of the 18 NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Racing Series telecasts and the 20 NHRA Xplōd Stylefest telecasts will be produced by Masters Entertainment and promise to build upon last year’s creative themes and concepts to deliver NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Racing Series to viewers at home in a unique and entertaining format.
NHRA is also proud to announce, in conjunction with Masters Entertainment, it will be adding nine, three minute segments to Inside Drag Racing, called NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Racing Series Race Report, which will be a results recap of the nine stand-alone Xplōd Sport Compact Series races. These nine segments will provide exposure to a traditional fan base of Inside Drag Racing.
Ted Jones, president of Masters Entertainment, says, “The Xplōd series has grown so much in popularity that we needed to add it to Inside Drag Racing.”

My first thought was that the times were not that good but after thinking about it they are almost perfect for this market. I am glad to see them move from the early afternoon to a time when the market is more likely to watch. Great job NHRA!
