There should be a little screw on the neck of the rotor holding it in place. If after you take the cap off and you cant see the screw, you need to bump the ignition over so that it turns and the screw is visible on the neck of the rotor. It might be alittle hard to take off because the screw has a lock washer but try not to strip it out!

by bump the ignition do you mean like turning to motor over? I also cannot see the screw. One last thing... like a dumbass i pulled off all of the spark plug wires without marking where each goes... Could someone tell me this for the h23?

I used some needle nose pliers around the head of the screw to break it loose. If your looking from the passenger side fender the order is 1 3 4 2 starting at the bottom left and rotating in a clock wise rotation.

If the screwhead is "screwed", try cutting a slot across the top of it and use a flathead screwdriver to get it off. If this is the first taking this out, it's probably stuck in there pretty good. Maybe a squirt of WD40 to loosen it up?

Good luck!

******* thing is impossible to get out. On my 93 I tried everything - vice grips, cutting a slot, etc etc. Finally bought a craftsman screw out kit and it still wasn't working. Bumped the drill up to the top torque setting and and nailed 'er. The bit exploded but it finally broke torque on that ******* screw. I still have the thing too with half a drill bit stuck in it.

Well **** now my car won't start I said expletive the rotor once i stripped the bolt most of the way so i put it back in, put it back together and replaced plugs @ wires and now it just turns over... Could I have scratched up the rotor or beat it up enough to where it wouldn't start anymore?

you prolly didn't put on the spark plug wires correctly.

i just took off the whole distributor (first mark your timing settings on the bracket holding the distributor)

and then its easier to get to the nut on the rotor because you have leverage if you put the distributor on the ground

On the cap, there should be an A stamped. That is cyl #1. (BTW, Cyl #1 is the furthest one away, by the timing belt) Counterclockwise from A, #1, is #2, then #4 (which has a stamp C), then #3.

So looking at your motor:

4 3 2 1

The plug wires should go:

2 1
4 3

Hope that helps.

BTW, did you take the entire distributor off? Or just the cap and rotor? Because if you removed the distributor, you might have accidently fully advanced/retarded the ignition timing.
