95 Accord - Speedometer/Odometer Issue
95 Accord, LX, 5 speed, 275K miles. Recently, speedometer/odometer has failed; speedometer hovers around 20 mph/odometer does not work. Cruise control works, overall runability is fine. Based on research, I suspected VSS, however, on recent drive, both speed/odom worked for one mile, then quit again. Can the VSS functionality be intermittent? Not sure if this is related or not, I'm also witnessing the left half of speedometer gage lighting is not functional.
Oh yes, no check engine light either...
I read some other postings with those having speedometer issues, but they didn't seem to line up with my specific issue. Any troubleshooting advice/thoughts?

My accord is doing the same thing....it will work for a brief then stop..it happened when it froze over here in december..i'd love to know how to fix it as well
With the absense of a 'Check Engine' lamp, most likely you have an issue with the cluster. reasoning?
1) Cruise Control works
2) No 'Check Engine" lamp
3) No flashing D4 lamp.
Most all cases, an intermittant/inop VSS will set a code with either (or both) the ECM and the TCM.
What the forum has seen with regards to these failures are:
a) Binding speedo needles from Indiglo Gauge face installations
b) Inop Speedo Stepper Motor (drives the speedo/odo mechanism via a reference signal from the VSS)
c) Damaged printed circuit (Cluster internal)
