Rough idle on my 97 SE 4cyl
Hey fellas, i havent posted here ina while but i just picked up a 97 SE 2.2 Accord for daily driving. the car only has 64K on it! had a recent tune up with NGK plugs by the previous owner. i have just a bit of an issue with the way the car idles. it idles around 500rpm and when in drive it shakes pretty bad, almost like i have polyurethane mounts in it. i checked out the motor mounts and they seem to be ok (although i couldnt see the rear one). as soon as it goes over 500rpm it smooths out. what can this problem be? I also changed the ATF last night and maybe it was all in my head but i could have sworn it maybe smoothed out a bit.
Today after work i will be replacing the timing belt, water pump, and balance shaft belt, as well as adding the balance shaft seal retainer for routine 9 year old maintnance.
any input will be greatly appreciated!

Is it a rhythmic vibration (dead cylinder) or just a generalized shaking?
Causes could be:
Vacuum leak
Ignition failure to one/more cylinders
low(er) compression
or
out of phase counter balance shaft
I think more towards one of the first three, since you also refer to a consistent low idle (s/b 700rpm), they could be both related by the same cause.

ok, well i changed the timing belt, balance shaft belt, water pump, and drive belts today. still having that vibration problem. its definately not a dead cylander. its just vibrating. like a bad motor mount. but the mounts checked out OK. i just reset the ECU and maybt that will help my situation. of than that i will check the vaccuum lines on a warmer day.
A 97 Accord is a OBD2 car and should have a check engine light on if it has an engine miss. (Code# PO301,302,303,304, depending on the cylinder) Have a idle relearn done with a Honda HDS and see if it smooths out

it very well could be your IAC, take if off clean the screen with some carb cleaner and clean out the TB as well, i did it on my 2.2CL with 113K and havent had a problem since. it takes like an hour to do minimum. and u accord guys dont have stock strut bars either, so that should save u some time.
