1988 honda accord problems can anywon help?
ok everyone im new here and i go to a school to learn how to fix cars and i just bought a 1988 honda accord hatchback DX(automatic)(first car for me) from a good friends thiers a few problem wondering if anywon can help me.
1. when the car starts its runs fine at idle when its in park, i put it into gear the idle drops just below 1000 rpms as it warms up the rpms drop even lower like 600rpms and the idle bounces sometimes more then others and almost wants to stall when i have come to a complete stop
2. after it has rained out or is moist i go to start the car when its cold and i put it into gear and it stall out inless i have let it sit and get warm then it runs fine
3. it has a little oil leak somewere (still looking for it) and when the car is under hard acceleration it shoots out some blue smoke as if it was burning it up i had my friend fill the oil and he over filled it just buy a little.
i am going to bring the car up under a lift and cheak it out and see what i can find anything i could do or look for to help me fix these problems would be great o and its also just had spark plugs wires cap and rotor replaced im going to replace the airfilter along with the fuel filter and the guy before me also replaced the valve cover gasket. idk if he did it right cause i see i little bit of oil around thier other than that is a great car

I suspect the 2.0l 4 cylinder you've got under the hood is in need of a tune-up. With particular attention being paid to new Spark Plug cables and a Distributor Cap & Rotor.
The running funky until warm can be an indication of pourous ignition cables (absorbs water during inclement weather, shorts to ground until heat drys they out sufficiently).
This being Carbureted, you may have an issue with the auto-enrichment system and a possible vacuum leak (thus the wandering idle.)
For your information. This is the engine you've got.

hey thanks for the ideas but the guy before me just got some new rotors, cap, plugs and wires but now that u sayed (The running funky until warm can be an indication of pourous ignition cables (absorbs water during inclement weather, shorts to ground until heat drys they out sufficiently).) thier is a ground cable that is not attcked it attche's from one of the valve cover bolts to the body frame and it has been cut away so im going to get a new piece of wire and good conectors and reconect that wire so do you think that that could have anything to do with any of the problems? and how would i go about trying to fix the auto in-richment system ? and i have looked all aound for a possible vacume leak but i cant find anything. but still dosent mean that thier isnt one. any other help would be great thanks
It can have strange and unintended circumstances, yes; repair that and anything else you find off-standard. The closer you can get it to original (at least as far as the engine is concerned) will help get it back into running condition.
The problem with Carbureted Honda's doesn't so much lie with the vehicle as it does on it's "I'm on an extreme budget and I've become fast friends with bubble gum and bailing wire" owners. Those who jury rig everything because they either don't understand it, or can't afford to (or won't) fix it right.
That's what you're up against.

NOx issue now i just got my car inspected and everything passed on it except for the NOx reading this is what everything read from the report
EMISSIONS READING LIMIT
HC grams per mile 00.26 02.00 pass
CO grams per mile 000.08 030.00 pass
NOx grams per mile 03.62 03.00 fail
CO2 grams per mile 380.94 N/A N/A
ok so it also printed out what could be the cause of all this, and it say manly that the EGR valve needs replacing so i looked online on how to tell if the EGR valve is good or not and so i found out and tested it. After i tested it and moved the diahgram around a little in the EGR valve the car pured like a kitten so i test drove the car for a couple and that same problem came back again with the rough idle. so im thinking that the EGR valve is getting ready to g.o so do you guys think i should replace it now, i do have the money to do it but with all of the other problems i wasent shure if i should replace it just yet and ideas would be great thanks
