NESBA @ VIR South 3/12 (with pics)
Ok, I had a big write-up done and closed the focking tab before I submitted, so I'll work on the abridged version.
The conditions were great as Paul (.paul) and I headed down to VIR. 85 and sunny in March is kinda rare in VA. VIR South is a fun and challenging track with lots of elevation changes and blind apex's. I finally got my knees down which was one of my goals for the day, I was super stoked! Paul did well for his cherry popping experience and I'll let him add his own thoughts.
The best turn on the track is turn 10 ("South Bend"). For me it was at the top of 3rd gear, you dont really brake for it, just hold a consistent speed, pitch it over around 70mph (i think, didnt have time to check), clip the apex and then the track just drops down. High speed + elevation change =
Now on to the pics:
Pilot Power still holding up well, or, I'm slow

That's why it's called Oak Tree

They let you keep your headlights running? Most places don't. Looks like you had fun
I miss my lil 650S, it was blue too
I can't wait till my first trackday of the year. T minus 11 days

Yeah, I didn't think to do it, and they didn't say anything to me about it in Tech, but they made Paul unplug his. I could have used some of the power from your RC on the straights

If I remember correctly, I think it's easier to pull the fuse than to unplug the lights on the sv.
Yeah, the sv gets eaten up on the straights, but it's so easy to catch'em again in the corners

just curious but what's the deal with them and having the lights still on if there's tape over them?? doesn't make much sense to be but ??? mine's just a simple pull off but there's the marker light too. what coolant were you running?

So if a rock takes them out, there isnt glass all over the track.

oh. sheesh. what were the rules? passing only on a couple straights and speed limited or what? I'm starting to kick myself that I didn't go... But I'm headed down to Deals Gap in 2 weekends

you're talking about getting through the plastic and then cracking the bulb? wow. that'd be kind've a bitch for me to do... my hands are too big to reach in there

eh. yeah the sv doesn't have the high hp but it's definetely capable. I'm betting on the sv he's getting the turns down easier then most cause it's so easy to roll on the throttle coming out of a turn with the torque. My superchicken I left in 2nd the other day on backroads and never worried about shifting except on straights. even when the rpms got down to like 3k rolling on got me good exit speed. plus Brian has a nice high mount from what I remember when I ran into him in the fall
v-twins ftw

Well, i meant plastic. A rock at 100mph that gets kicked up will pretty much shatter it, the tape will at least keep most of it on the bike.

Looks like a low mount to me, but yeah, it's easy to get good drive out of the corners with an SV, you can roll on the throttle a little earlier and get excellent drive out of the corner.
For Beginner you cannot pass in any turn, as long as you are past the track out cone (cone you aim for coming out of a turn) you can pass before the next turn in cone. Intermediate can pass anywhere, and if passing in a turn, the pass must be made on the outside. That is how NESBA runs it at least, and it will vary from group to group.
The tape doesnt keep the bulb from shattering, its for keeping the lens from shattering.

yeah. i'm just surprised that a rock or something could get through the tape and plastic to even hit the glass other then in a actual crash. and yeah it does look like a low... I thought he had a high... Either that or I'm thinking of someone else...

*whooooooosh*
the rock breaking the bulb isnt the problem. its the lens, on the outside..... plastic shards on track arent any better than glass for your tires.
