Default 5th Gen Accord potential AC problem.. Fire + AC not working.. Factory Recall

http://auto.consumerguide.com/...ility/

That's a lil list of the recalls for 5th gen Accords. I can testify about the one w/the AC messing up. While mine didn't catch on fire, it was shorting out and work, at best, intermittently*.

I took it to the Honda dealership, they fixed it for FREE (they have to since it's a factory defect) and changed my oil, spark plugs/wires and dist. cap for free as well

How sweet is that?

I reccomend 5th Gen owners call their local Honda dealership and find out if any of these recalls have been fixed on thier car and take the appropriate action depending on what they find out.

Which proves, that there are advantages to poking your head in a dealership from time to time. Sometimes they do free stuff !!!
Now the 105k service is another issue all together. (No Thank You)

Right so when NAPA puts the belt on one (or more) tooth off it can be towed to us and we charge even more.

That's why you don't see Jiffy Lube doing engine jobs.. (although they certainly caused enough of 'em). It's truely a marvel of the modern world how fast oil will leak from a loose drain plug.

no to highjack the thread or anything but i was wondering about this--

Automatic transmission: Cars with high mileage may begin to shift more harshly, which may be corrected by adding a bottle of Lubeguard conditioner to the automatic transmission fluid. (1994-96)

Mine is shifting harshly.. i should change the atf but would they do it for free if i went there with this? Or would they JUST add the lubeguard?

I certainly wouldn't disparage any of the fine young men toiling as Honda Service Technicians (some sarcasm intended), but to insist that a timing belt job can be performed successfully only by Honda Technicians is being a little disingenuous.

That's a unique concept, NAPA Auto Parts stores performing auto repairs - WOW.
What next? Transmission Overhauls at Jiffy Lube?

And I, would never use anything other than a fresh GATES Belt of OEM Honda.
I save money, not throw it away

If you worked on as many tow-ins from other shops as I do you would say the same thing. They love to put balancer belts on 180 degrees off (if they put it on at all) too. Oil in the washer bottle, too much oil... the list goes on. My paycheck isn't complaining at all. Don't even get me started on CARMAX...

Yeh, I know. I was just funn'in with ya.
It got so bad having to redo everyones Come-Backs (even within the dealership I was working in) that I hit management up for some additional 'compensation'. I too did quite well on the re-do's
(until I got tired of it all)

But in all fairness, there are a lot of competent Independents out there. It's just a matter of finding them.

if I don't do it, it goes straight to Honda............ (trans rebuild excluded as the Honda dealer recommended a specialty shop)
