Throttle body cleaning
Does anyone have a link to a throttle body cleaning how-to? I have a short ram intake ad I think it is just a matter of taking it off and cleaning the throttle body. I just want to be 100% sure.
Your 100% right too. Just get a can of throttle body cleaner (either from a dealer or parts store as long as you get a decent brand) With the car running, open the throttle some and spray all around the throttle plate, then with the car off you can scrub it with an old toothbrush or your finger if some crud remains.
Have you done it with the car running? The directions on the can I have says to do it with the car off. I cleaned the throttle body on my wife's car (Maxima) yesterday and I'm going to do mine later this week. Fortunately, I have a short ram intake so it will be easier to get to than the Maxima was.
my experience is to use SeaFoam and spray it into the butterfly plate with the car running. i had a friend rev the engine between 2k-3k RPMs for me, as the car sputters i tell him to release the throttle and continue once the cleaner works it's way in. i continued doing this for about 10-15 minutes until carbon burned up and released a white fog from the exhaust.
you can do it both ways, on or off engine... those cans which u bought does a bit of cleaning, but the best is to take off the whole manifold and clean it with petrol, so it doesnt rust. NEVER USE WATER!
