Default cam/air/fuel question

sorry about another cam question, but I gotta small problem. I just got the stage 1 crower cams installed on my h23. It idles perfect, but it really has much less power than before. Under 3k rpm, there's really nothing and it's kinda sputtery(problem w/ lack of fuel?) and after that, it's just slow as *****. My air/fuel ratio before was pretty bad, like 16:1 at one point in the curve. Could these cams have made the ratio worse? Am I on the right track when saying the problem is the air/fuel ratio? Could this be the problem? I'm replacing the fuel filter this week to see if maybe that maintenance is overdue and is a part of the problem and if it's still bad, I could do an safc and a dyno tune. I'm just afraid that that won't fix it. If any other suggestions, please post. Thanks in advance for the help.

well considering the fact that the cams changed how long the valves stay open and how much they open, i think its safe to say that your a/f changed. And more than likely for the worse. You cant expect to just bolt them on and it run like a champ when you were already running lean in the first place. Lean = starving for fuel. Gotta feed the fuel monkey if you want to make power. Your a/f should be in the low 13's across the board at WOT. Whats going to help you the most is a program that has separate timing table that you can independently adjust. an safc will get your a/f's correct but you will have a negative side effect of retarding the timing by adding fuel with an AFC.

okay, that makes sense. However, can I adjust the timing separately, but just manually?

you can mess with the valve overlap if you have adjustable cam gears, but thats about it. The only way to adjust timing separately and individually is by using a different tuning program like hondata, AEM ems...etc. An AFC is not going to cut it if you are wanting to make power.

Hondata s300 - get it and enjoy.

St. Louis, MO - high 62 degrees with 20% chance of rain. Later tonight - 30 degree low - with 0% chance of rain. Looks like an 'average' day to me. There will be a mix of clouds and sun throughout the day. Enjoy - oh, its supposed to be windy today. So, tell your girl not to wear a lose mini skirt.
