trade-in value on a '00 gsr
I am about to trade in my 2000 GSR for a new STI. What do you think I can expect to get for the trade in. It is clean and has 109.000 on the clock. many many many mods done to the motor as well.
I know it'll be impossible to say exactly what I will get for the trade in but I am curious to know what you guys have got or heard of for ppl trading in their tegs to a dealership.
Any info will be great. thanks.

I say you get 2 grand...
Sell it on the side man, trade ins will rape you, especially with mods.
A modded ar is worthless to a dealer, because anybody that goes to a dealer to buy a car doesnt want to buy a modded car, thus a dealer will have very little chance of reselling your trade in..
You will get anywhere from 2 grand to 4 grand for your trade in, when you could easily sell this car for 8k+ depending on its condition.

swap out the mods with your OEM stuff you hopefully still have and then go trade it in... don't be optimistic when you trade it in though. your best bet would probably be to sell it as it is to a 3rd party or go through stripping out the mods

The dealership will see your mods as things they have to fix and try to talk you down on the price... i think you could get around 9-10k for it depending if you buy a new or used sti, if you buy a new one im sure you could get 10k maybe more but a used one it might be a little less, they mark up sti's so high so when you have a trade in they give you alot for it but in reality they are just shaving some money off there really high markup

dont trade it in with aftermarket parts... like the others have said above it will decrease the value of your car... either put everything back to stock or sell the car privately. thats your best bet... if your trading it as-is to the dealer i'd say less than $5000
Thanks guys, you all have been a big help.
The car does look 100% stock, just has ALOT of $$$ under the hood. But the fact that they do mark up STI's so high is good to hear because all I care is getting 6k or so for the car.
The only reason I am against selling the car myself is because I still owe a little on it and also I just want to get rid of it soon so I can get into that sti asap.
is it fairly simple to sell a car via h-t or would I be better off posting an ad in the autotrader online?

btw.. i have already checked KBB.com and what it appears to me is that the dealer would give me around $5500 in stock form. the only reason i think the mods might make it worth a lil more is because it was all done professionally and was rebuilt less than 3000 miles ago. hopefully they will agree, but I am not counting on it.
Does anyone have any advice on how to negotiate with them to get what i want? Anyhow thanks a million for all the responses. I will try to post some pics later tonight or tomorrow to give you all a better idea of the car i am talking about.

To the dealer mods dont mean ****, its just more bs they have to deal with. Also its harder to sell a car with mods. You should just put it back to stock and sell it on autotrader.com and then sell the parts, Im sure you will make alot more money off that. One more thing, most dealers dont take cars with mods anyway.

most dealers could give a **** if i have mods. they will take my car if I brought it to them on ******* tow truck. The simple fact is that they want to make a sale and when we are talking about a $35,000 sale it is not some small **** to them and they will do what it takes to sell the car.
I know dealers dont care 2 ***** about mods, but I was curioous if anyone has traded or knows someone who has traded in their DC@ and what they got for it. fact is simple... dealers are the same as any other business minded people - they will do what it takes ,within reason, to make a sale.

as everyone else has said the dealer wants nothing to do with a modded teg. i think you should just sell it here on ht and call it a day. i think you can get 12k if it has low miles
cool, here's what I am gonna do - I am going to try to sell it on h-t before I go buy the new car, but if it does not sell by then then I will just take the loss. so anyone interested check the northwest for sale section for the'00 gsr. I will post pics and a list of all mods done to the engine and who built it. thanks again guys.

i'm not trying to be an ***, not trying to insult you but your stupid if your gonna trade it in for less value its worth. just sell it instead of trading it in.. someone will buy it...try selling it to someone local.

Thats the advantage to trading it in, also you dont have to deal with flaky people trading it in, and like i said before you will get just as much for it at the dealer than you would private party because of the high markup on sti's

I tell you what, when you go to trade it in, i'll give you 500 bucks more then whatever they are going to give you on your trade in.
That way you dont have to hassle with the sale, and you can still get more then there going to give you.

trade it to someone with a stock one and then go trade it in.. the onlt thing that will get you better trade in value is an good aftermarket stereo and a sweet set of wheels. thats it. from the mouth of my buddies dad.. sales manager at a perty big chevy lot in the city.
nope
I'm cool man. I am going to attempt to sell it here, but I would much rather not have people i do not know looking at my car because there is always that chance of the one ******* who tries to steal it. I would not want to have to deal with that because that will only end 2 ways, either i go to jail for dealing with them the way a thief should be dealt with or I get real unlucky and lose the car. so I am leaning towards the dealer trade in.
Thanks four1one

2000 Turbo GS-R> Listen to this man. There's a reason he will pay $500 over whatever the dealership gives. If you put an ad for $14,000 obo, you can always settle for $11,000 and STILL get TWICE what a dealership will give you. They're not going to discount an STi that much anyways.
