Default wheel hop like MADD crazy??!?!??!

i have a 5g 5spd lude. i dont kno if this is common in all preludes but my car has EXTREME wheel hop when i launch from a dead stop and i mean REAL bad, my entire dash shakes and it feels like my car is jumping up and down. i've tried launching at different RPMs and no help. i know its the car because i drove my friend's EK hatch with b16 and launched absolutely perfect with NO wheel hop wutsoever. i even tried to get wheel hop in his car by launching retarded yet just teh tires would spin.
i've recently got in a minor accident (ran into a curb at a high speed) and ended up replacing my driver's side lower control arm, front sway bar endlinks, and front motor mount. now my question is, u guys think the reason why my car sounds like its going to break and wheel hops like a mother ***** only when launching is because of the rear motor mount possibly being broken or is it something else. any input would be appreciated, thanks.

it could be the tires, do you have performance or all seasons, does your friends car have performance or all seasons

u think the tires would make that big a difference, between tires just peeling and wheels hopping?? he has performance directional tires and i have just stock potenzas.

sidewall will make a bigger differance, but a different/stiffer tred can make a differance too

so i guess the shorter the sidewall the less traction you will get?

a big sidewall will have more flex/give and will have extra cushion to work with, and a smaller sidewall will be stiffer and have less flex/give and will have a lot less obsorbing ability. i would recommend putting in the motor mount inserts, although this will give you more vibrations during daily driving. also look into tie rod bushing replacements and even a engine torque damper if you are that serious about your wheel hop. or you could try launching over and over until you get better at it. my clutch is usually not fully engaged and the throttle is not fully down until like 3500 rpms, and i would say i'm above average at launching for a prelude.

Yeah try the motor mount inserts, and maybe a good suspension setup would help too.

Your suspension could be the problem.
I've seen this happen on cars after they fitted coilovers.
Depends on suspension setup.
Motor mounts are also a possible reason for the wheel hop.

Dude, MADD is Mothers Against Drunk Driving. They have nothing to do with wheel-hop. Maybe your wheels are drunk and they were dancing? You should get that checked out. Drunken dancing wheels is a sign of poor innertube health. Serious problems.

if it's not the mount then try upgrading your suspension, strut and sway bars, struts and springs, also get some sport tires.

my wheel hop is horrible. You just have to launch softer. Don't rev so high, keep it at 4K the most and feather the clutch. That's what I did and I have no problems now. I had massive hop at 4K when popping the clutch, feather it and you be fine.

I'm on stock suspension and Hankook Ventus HR 2 summer tires.

I have a 98sh with minor mods and i get wheel hop. It's just one thing you will have in front wheel drive sports cars. I have High performance/seasonal tires but by the sounds my wheel hop isnt is bad as yours. Try tires.

thing is, i kno how to launch, and u dont want to feather or ride ur clutch at all, u really dont need to to get a perfect launch if ur car is runnign fine, just as in my friend's gsr and ek hatch with b16a. i think after hitting the curb i fuked something else up pretty bad, im guessing its my rear motor mount which im gonna have go get checked out on wednesday but i was just wanting to hear opinions on wut else u guys think mite be wrong. i've tried dropping my car at 2.5k, 3k, 4k, extremely bad wheel hop every single damn time. only time i dont get wheel hop is if i drop it at 5k, but thats too high an RPM and i peel out more than i GO. and i know its the car and not the driver because i launched PERFECTLY in both my friend's gsr and hatch. thanks for all the input u guys, any more opinions??

i had really bad wheel hop when the upper control arm bushings wore out. id check those, especially if youre lowered. theres several things that can lead to wheel hop, as most have mentioned. but in the end its how you launch.

GRS's and hatches are very different cars than a prelude. Preludes are heavy and deal with wight differently. I could launch my Toyota at redline and not get any wheel hop, but that doesn't mean all cars should act like that. To check the mount, just get under the car with a pry bar and ram that **** in the mount and pry it. If it moves alot then its bad, if it doesn't then its good.

The only bad thing about feathering the clutch is that you are wearing it out quicker. I guess you can burn the flywheel also but it all depends on how much you feather the clutch I guess.

Also check your balljoints, swaybars , end links , control arms and tie rod ends. If all the above is stiff then it should be good. Other than that, I would suggest not dumping the clutch for regular street driving as there is no point. If this is for drag at an actual strip then I would suggest upgrading the front end.

Oh yeah, check your hubs also....jack car up, grab a hold of wheel and push in and pull out and if your wheel moves then you need a hub on that wheel. Do that to all 4 wheels.

hmm..I think that when you launch, just kind of feather the clutch and not let your foot off it right away. But I think that your ball bearing needs to be replaced, when you cruise at 60mph, does the steering wheel shake?

nope...smooth as a rock. only problem i ahve is wheel hop at launch. i drove my friend's celica last nite and launched it at 3200ish RPM and there was no wheel hop either so im pretty convinced something is wrong with the car.
i had the lower control arm and sway bar endlinks replaced after the accident. i'll check the motor mount by hitting it, u just hit the mount and see if it moves??? lil confused as to how to check if the mount is broken.

i am now on koni yellows and eibach springs....i have the rear at real stiff and the front pretty soft.....it helped my wheel hop a bit

Don't hit it, just get a pry bar or a big *** screwdriver and pry it between the mount and the bracket that holds the mount and then try and move the rubber mount left or right and see how much play it has. If you can move the mount then most likely its going or is bad as it is soft enough to move. They should be pretty stiff.

With my 17 inchers an my Khumo tires I had wheel hop like crazy on city streets, mediocre at the track. With my 15 inchers with RA1 Proxies I had no wheel hop at the track (and crazy traction) and little wheel hop on city streets. Launching is hard on alot of things, like axles. You shouldn't be doing it enough to have a problem with a street car.
