Default Prelude w/ 17's

This might sound really dum but what are you guys riding on for tire size. I am used to my accord which I ran 215-45-17. Should I run the same tire size for the prelude or go with 215-40-17.

What year, make, model, package of prelude do you have?

And no it is not dumb to ask questions when one does not know something. Probabaly the greatest sigh of intelligence is to realize that you do not know something and seek the answer.

The stock tire for your car is 205/50-16. The recommended 17" size is 205/45-17, this will have a overall diameter difference of +0.8% or about 3/16" with the same width. 215/45-17 could work but it would be +2.3% difference or 1/2" with a width that is 10mm wider. This might lead to rubbing seeing as your car is lowered but it probably won't. I offer no guarentees.

I recommend 205/45-17 for your car.

Cheers.

I ran 215/40/17's on my 97 and 98 Prelude on Neuspeed race springs & Koni's. Perfect size and more width than a 205.

215/40/17 is just fine - slightly smaller than the overall stock diameter. The 205/45/17 size is slightly taller than stock. The additional sidewall protection you get with 205/45/17 is truley minimal.

I run 215/40/17 with no problems and my speedo is only noticeably off at higher speeds (80mph+). If it means anything to you, TireRack has 215/40/17 listed as one of their "safe" (approved) sizes for the 5th gen prelude.

Not true. The only 17" size the Tire Rack lists for a 2000 Honda Prelude SH is 205/45-17.

The 215/40-17 will also work, but the 205/45-17 is closer in diameter to the stock 205/50-16 size.

205/45-17
215/40-17
