Default got new rims but may need repair

so, i picked up some used 15inch racing hart cybers and one rim has a slight bend on the lip. i took it to a local wheel repair shop and they said that it would cost $80 just to straighten the wheel, but after that it will be alittle black because they need to heat it up to fix it. the guy said he can make it look like new for around $190.

my question is, should i just get it straighten then try to fix the black stuff myself? the rims have a polished lip so i just can't paint over it. please let me know what you guys think. tia

It's up to you really. Do you think you can remove the black by yourself? Or would you rather have a proffesional do it? The black could be either just be soot and residue from the torch they use to heat it or it could actually be the metal has changed colour, sort of like blueing.

yea, well, i don't mind spending time repolishing it. i have repolished my used header before, but i'm not sure if it's the same thing. does anybody know how hard it is to do?

yeah, i have already read a couple of them on here and other sites. i was just wondering if it would work the same way if the rim was burnt or whatever. most of the threads i read were on painted wheels or polished wheels with no damage/repairs.
