Default steering column jacked up

My friends steering column is bent up and twisted. We are going to the junkyard to buy a new steering column. I have searched to find out how hard it would be to do. I have never done it before, but I am very confident that I could do it. Anyone ever replace theres before. I would like to have a few pointers on it or possibly a write up. Like I said before, I searched but was unable to find what I am looking for. Thanks

While my motor was out I swapped my CX tranny for a SI ps one. From my experience I can say that it is a real pain in the ***. Unbolting everything is easy, getting it out is a little harder. It'll seem like it doesn't want to come out but you just have to work with it. If it's a manual steering rack it'll be easier since it has less hoses than a ps one. GL

BTW, this was on a 99 civic.

Yeah, at first you had me scared, but thank god it wasn't the right thing. I am so glad I don't have to remove the rack&pinon part of it. I was wondering if all the work can be done under the dash and not have to disconnect anything from under the hood.

Actually, since the steering column does connect directly to the steering rack I think I can help.

On 96-00 Civics the column can be disconnected from the rack without getting under the car at all. The rack has a rod coming out of it and the steering column kind of just clamps around it. You'll have to loosen some bolts, and I imagine after you've freed the column it will just slide off. Basically, I did the opposite by pulling the rack away from the column.

pretty easy. there is a uhhh i think 12mm you have to take out close to the floor board when u put the new column in there is a notch for it so make sure it lines up. besides that swap the wires and etc over. 1-10 probably a 3-4
