F22 Turbo Question
I have searched this for quite some time now and haven't really found out what I am looking for. I'm very interested in doing a turbo setup on my 96 f22a Prelude but I don't really want to do a junkyard setup. I would love to just get a kit and then upgrade injectors, pistons, fuel management rather than piecing one together. I know a lot of guys have done a junkyard setup with DSM parts but I think that is going to be a lot more work and money than what I want to spend. I'm willing to spend about $4k without pistons and with tuning. Is this a reasonable amount?
I was talking to a buddy yesterday and he told me that there is going to be a lot more work than I think when I start this project. He told me that the way the engine bay is setup, it is a little bit shorter than the f22 Accords and he doesn't know if the alternator or Power Steering, or AC will be in the way. He also told me that I may have to get new smaller electric fans because the manifold would be too close to the stock fans. Does anyone know for sure if that is the case?
The reason I'm asking is because I found an H22 SH turbo kit for about $2k shipped.

It seems like a great kit but I'm not sure if the piping will work or the oil lines or even the intercooler. I know I will have to get a new manifold but after talking to that guy I don't know if it's worth it. I also heard some bad things about the Drag kit but is there any other option?
Also does anyone have pics of an f22 turbo prelude? I tried searching but couldn't find any.
Thanks

That kit won't fit your engine. H22 manifolds aren't the same as F22ax manifolds. I don't like kits because they give you crappy tuning (usually an fmu and check valves), and alot of times too small of a turbo. $4k will get you a nice set-up, including pistons, if you take your time and piece it together.
what are your goals? A junkyard set up with a good fmu will cost next to nothing and house all of the PS. AC components. Just get a decent intercooler and custom piping and you'll havge a nice little 13.5 -14.0 car for CHEAP! I am donig to my winter beater. My summer car... well thats a different story

I know that manifold wont fit, I just wasn't sure with piping and oil lines. And I'm not just going to bolt this kit on and hope for the best. Im also going to spend the extra money to get it tuned right.

You could swap in an H22 and get relatively close to that NA with mods. You could do somekind of G-series build and with money left, mod the engine and still come out on top. Either way, seems like 4k is not worth wasting on an f22. My .02.

this is the guy with a turbo kit on his f22, in the last picture,(it doesnt show) it had a close picture of his engine bay, he put down 300 something to the wheels.

it just depends on what he wants! I had a JDM h22a and I was going to swap it, but I also wanted boost, and I decided to go f22+boost
I dont want the fastest car, but just something not common!
so like I said, its just up him if he wants a turbo kit or swap....if you go turbo, build it up, get you can get a manifold from a dsm eclipse or talon, all you have do is just redrill the holes, or go to http://www.f22parts.com and get a f22 manifold(its a bit spendy) then intercoolers are easlily acquired and pretty much everthing you can get easliy just look around the internet and do a lot of research! I did mine and it was fun.
cliff notes: just do what you want to do, if you go turbo, use a manifold from a dsm eclipse or talon, or check out http://www.f22parts.com but in all just have fun in what you do, and don't forget to get everything professionally tuned

I wish I had a picture of an f22 turbo engine bay. I just want to see the clearance between the manifold and ps and alternator.
I would really love to go f22+ turbo but a buddy got me thinking of clearance issues so I would just like to confirm that before I pursue it. You have an f22 turbo? Do you have pics and did you get a kit or piece it together? I remeber talking with you a month back or so about doing the f22 turbo or h22 swap. Have you had it dynoed?
The first thing I would do after I install it would be tune it! Most people don't understand how crucial it is to tune your car after a turbo install.

ive seen a couple greddy kits on ebay for the 87-99 prelude all models except the sh. They run bout 2200 but you could always upgrade the fuel managment if you wanted too. Good Luck w the turbo build up.
yo!! go here for some pictures of a prelude f22 turbo
