OK so i just Installed Stage 2 BLOX Cams, Skunk2 cam gears, and supertech valve springs/retainers.....My Q is, why does my vtec bog out when it hits? Is it because i need higher compression to handle my Stage2 cams? Also, my vtec is kickin in early at 4.5, is that normal? Do you think that if my vtec were to kick in at 5.5 it would react normal with the cams? (pull harder instead of bogging out)

 

Try setting vtec around 6200. I have stage to cams on my b18c head and I also had a problem with that. Vtec needs to be set higher.

Did you get it tuned? If you are still runing a stock ECU thats why its bogging. Im thinking it bogs because it dumps more fuel because of the lift on the cams.

 

haha you cant just drop in cams and expect your motor to run perfect. you need to get it tuned and change your vtec x-over point

 

yea I got my tuned and it was perfect...I was playing with the vtec controller and thats when I found out that when u turn down the rpm where vtec comes on it will bog.

 

well i'm going to get the vtec controller tonight and see if that does the job for now, and if not, then imma get it tuned for sure by monday. I know i have to get it tuned, but i want to wait until i get the vtec controller, that way i can just do all the tuning at once. but does anyone have an idea why my car is hitting vtec at 4.5? isn't a stock gsr supposed to hit vtec at 5.5? i have a code throwing the knock sensor, can that affect vtec? Also, i'm looking for a chipped ECU, does anyone have one laying around, or atleast know of a good place to get one?

 

the knock sensor will disable vtec. you are having problems because your engine is not tuned correctly. dont drive it or stay out of vtec if you do until u tune it. ohterwise you may fuckup your motor.

stock gsr hits vtec at 4.5k and secondaries open up at 5.5-5.7k rpm.

do it right, and get an obd1 ecu and tune it with crome or hondata.

 

damn ok i know i don't want a fucked up motor.....I'm gonna get it tuned ASAP. I have the apexi vtec controller coming in to me 2mrw afternoon, so imma set my vtec higher. But i'm gonna definately try to get it tuned. Thanks a lot once again for all of the advice! I appreciate it.
