Would the D15Z1 be a good block to build off of? and Why??

I would say no. I know I wouldnt spend the time or money on it. If you want sohc only just boost a d16y8. That motor has more power and is just a better base to start off of.
The d16y8 has obviously more output, (bigger motor) and there are going to be more aftermarket parts available for it. It's just a more powerful base to start off with and finding parts for it wont be as hard.

d15 rods are weak. but the d15z1 rods are stronger than normal d15 rods.
the d15z1 is a freakshow.
if it were me, I'd get a some 01-06 gx pistons and put a z6 or y8 head on the thing.
The d15z1 has a d15 crank with d16 lenght rods and shorter pistons.
Ignore the z1 head cause it's a total freakshow.
basically the d17 has a longer stroke (~95) with d16 length rods. stuffed into a block that's the same height has a d16.
CLIFF NOTES: USE PMS pistons from the 01-06 civic gx (they're like 25 bucks a piece ULTRA CHEAP!!!). along with a sohc vtec head and you'll have a good r/s ratio along with a 11.3ish cr
b16s are overrated.

the more one spends on an engine swap, the less can spend on other things. To me, I'd rather have 2000 dollars than 5lbs of torque and maybe 1000more rpms.
Make no mistake, b-series are better than d-series. They will always have more hp potential. But dumbasses pay high prices for b-series. And those guys keep the prices up for everyone else. I've seen b-series distributors go for 200 dollars. Never seen a d-series go for more than 100. Seen a d16y8 tranny go for avg of 200 dollars. Seen LS trannys with grinding gears go for 450.
I bought a d15z1 swap. with no dizzy, no timing belt and no injectors for FIFTY dollars. I got a busted ex tranny for free. gear swap time. BTW, vx tranny was in imaculate shape. (long gears are good for preserving synchros and bearings
) Put some gx slugs in it (200 dollars with new rings) and add an ex head for 100 + 50 for an intake manifold + throttle body. We're now talking less than 500 dollars for a complete engine + transmission that gets from point A to point B with decent quickness. No, it's not as fast as a gsr swap. But is it really worth that extra 2000-2500 dollars? To those that don't know. It is. But to those that do, it doesn't.

just making sure, ive been reading about gx pistons but not getting clear answers that i want.
will the gx pistons bolt directly into my jdm d15b with stock rods? i read that the wrist location is good to fit in the block, but will the wrist pin diamater be the same as to no machining modification.
im realli looking foward to spening a mere 200 in pistons/rings to get my compression up from 9.4 to 11ish. also, will this be good on 92octane?

yes, you'll need to get it tuned though. the PDN pistons from 98-00 GX are good for d16s. but the PMS pistons from 01-06 will work (they have a 19mm wrist pin)

Check this, but I've heard D15 rods are expensive and only a few companies make them (Crower comes to mind). But then again, dwnthehatch said they're different rods, so I dunno. Just suggesting. It'd be worth your while to at least look up.
