Default bad starter?

Sometimes my car won't start (battery is 4 months old). The other day I had to jump start it. Today it happened agian, I turn my key to the start position but noting happen. So I decided to open up my hood and try to start it agian, to see if there's any noise. All I hear is my starting making a ticking noise. Called up a friend he came and banged on the starter and it started ever since. Do I need to replace my starter or is it good now?

thanks

My friend's hatch suddenly would die. No power, no clicking nothing. What we did was unbolt the ground from the battery (ground going to chassis) which is right by the battery and scratched the chassis surface really good and then it started fine. Just an example of how much of a bitch grounds can be.

if they are rusty, y not just clean them while you are at it? of course that could be it but other problems can b the culprit. u need to eliminate things on ur own so we can figure out what it is. this is mostly for everyone else since this original post's owner seems to have been kicked off
