Default Clutch Cable Situation

i was driving to school everything was fine until i got to the school parking lot and went to put it in reverse. all of a sudden clutch pedal went all the way to the floor and car cut off. checked the clutch pedal and cable and it was slack. i thought the cable had snapped but when i popped the hood i noticed that the **** that you turn at the tranny to tighten up the cable had backed off or somehow went to the top. anybody ever have this problem. i'm thing because i have stiff mounts that it viberated and backoff.

Are you sure it isn't broken to where the cable didn't snap but the cable is free to travel within the sleeve? That happened to me, cable didn't snap but whatever you call the piece that holds the cable in place broke and I had no clutch whatsoever until I replaced the cable.

ya same thing happend to me, believe it or not i didnt drive it for a month cuz i had no idea what it was, get a new cable, the adjuster nut probably stripped off of the bolt that tightens the cable. try adjusting it back down, but the first time you smash through the gears it will probably slip back down.

I would say it is pretty common, which is why they went with the Hydro actuated clutches from 92+.

I had the exact same thing happen to me the day after I installed a new clutch or a new tranny, I forget. But I drove it back home purely on the synchros then figured out the problem at home. Hasn't happened since, but I would like to replace my clutch cable just because it's old.

Ya just be careful when u put in a high stage pressure plate, becasue that added pressure puts alot of stress on the weak frame of the clutch pedal itself, usually there are onlt 3 things wrong when a cable clutch goes bad, 1) clutch itself, 2) cable, and 3) pedal assembly. Ive had all 3 go bad. just keep these in mind, especially the last one.

Go to autozone or checkers and get a better cable. The honda ones suck really bad. For $26 I picked one up that the cable was made of steel and not that vinyl crap or whatever it is they use, and the threads for the adjuster screw was made of metal instead of plastic. I had to replace mine because the adjuster part was in 4 pieces when I bought it.
