Default Changing Clutch Does a Lighter flywheel help acceration?

I am getting a new clutch and I am thinking about getting a lighter flywheel maybe 8 lb flywheel with the new clutch kit, I am planning on putting out about 170-180 hp all motor...will this help acceration or should I just get a new clutch kit and forget about the lighten flywheel? any help personal experiences would help..

Yes it will help acceleration. But the revs will drop faster in between shifts. If its a street car, 8lbs might be too light. it wouldnt hurt to upgrade it since the you will have to remove the flywheel anyway to resurface it. I say if you got the money, go for it.

its okay... right now im putting 175 horses and using a 10lb flywheel.. acceleration is fine,

i had a type r tranny, so i couldnt really tell the difference.. i think 8lbs would be harder to drive, my 10lbs is hard on the clutch....

what xcalibur said. it definitely will make a noticeable difference in accel/decel, especially if you go with an 8lb one. some ppl complain that going so light makes the ride a bit jerky and you lose some comfort, but i think it's really a matter of getting used to it...

i went with an 11.5 lb flywheel to kinda get the best of both worlds, since my car is my daily. perfect tradeoff for me...faster accel without sacrificing too much driveability. but to each his own...

u could even just get your flywheel lightened when u change your clutch, if you dont wanna buy a lightened one...

My motor is bone stock and I've been using the clutchmasters 7.5 lb. flywheel for nearly 3 years, no problems at all.

I've been using the 7.5lb Fidanza flywheel for 3 years and it has treated me very well.

You wont notice much of a change in acceleration, at least I didn't going from my stock ITR flywheel to the Fidanza. The biggest benefit for me purchasing the flywheel was for less throttle effort for revv matching and heel-toe on the track.

i have a 9.5lb exedy flywheel, and i love it..revs fast.drops fast bewteen gears but if your a good driver and shift fast its not a factor....makes heel toe alot easuer, and fun around corners.

Exactly.

Any **** said about driveability with an 8lb, obviously no one has Actually driven one.
The only time I can really even notice mine drops/revs faster is if I drive a different car with a stock flywheel.

And when I first put it in, I barely noticed any difference when driving it,
I was expecting it to be a huge difference with all the stories I heard.

Go with an 8lb flywheel, they do fine.

go with an 8 lb

go with a 12 lb

go with a 14 lb

haha, dude....best thing for you to be is to try and see if anyone will let you drive their cars that have lightened flywheels. Everyone has different opinions.

here's MY OPINION. Get the exedy flywheel from SLP for 190 shipped 9.46 lbs, chromoly one peice. Just get the lightweight fw since ur doin the clutch. I really regret not doin it when I had my clutch replaced, so now I'll hafta pull the tranny just to install the fw.

The thing I like about my flywheel is that it has a replaceable friction surface. So next time I change my clutch disc, I won't have to deal with downtime getting my flywheel resurfaced. I can just slap a new steel friction surface on there.

Really the only time I have problems w/ RPM dropping fast is when I drive with the A/C on. When it's on, RPM drops like an anchor was attached to the tach needle in between shifts.

i have an exeddy twin disc with lighten flywheel (8 pounds)......

Does any one else have problems when using a/c that the rpms just goes all the way down and sumtimes stalls when u slap it back in neutral or coming to a stop?...mine does..i also have a 70 mm bbk throttle body..(dont know if it makes a diff)...

But the only way i could fix it was to edit the fuel maps...adding more fuel to those lower rpms and load cels...seemed to fix the problem..only does it once in a great while...but i dont think its the correct way of doing it...

So how are u guys compensating this?
