In 5th gear, Whining noise and grind when shifting.
Ok well I have a 92 YS1 LSD tranny in my crx. A couple of months ago I drove up to canada and back. The day after I got back the tranny was making horrible noises. It sounded as if the input shaft bearing was shot... With further investigation it turned out the oil seal around the axle was shot and with the long drive to and from canada the tranny leaked most of its oil out. I replaced the seal and filled it up with oil.... That fixed the noises and made the tranny fell like it had before. I have kinda ignored this up till now and I have the time and money coming up to hopefully solve the problem... but it grinds when shifting into 5th. It feels like the syncro might be goneand it also whines when driving in 5th gear at any rpm.. My question is what could it be just the syncro? or somthing more.. What other problem could arise form driving with little to no fluid? Any help would be great.. Thanks

Upper bearing is the actual name of the part? WHat exactly does this bearing do? Is that a hard thing to replace on my own.... Is it ok to drive on for a little while?

More then likely it is the ball bearing on the top of the mainshaft gear stack. You have to pull the tranny from the car and disassemble the tranny. I have no clue if you can do it. Probably won't kill it worse then what you have already done so for the time being, but replace when you get time.
