What techniques do you guys when it comes to taking out a heater motor...:P
Just trying to replace the heater motor in my car, 1990 civic hatch. But it seems to get wedged with the floor, is there some way of doing this without bustin the crap out of it? The only way i see is taking out every bolt for ducting system.... Thats a little much..
Excellent and timely question. I am replacing the entire assembly and any tricks would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah, I've tried taking out some of the duct bolts but couldnt get enough play to slide the motor out... With the way this car has been and having to take the bumper off to get to the headlights... you probably have to take off the hatch, head rests and winsheild wipers b4 u can do anything with the heater motor

Like 8 bolts and 4 wire clips and the dash comes out. Any other way is a losing battle.
i just changed mine and i just unbolted both units and gasket starps and wiggeled the white fan box out a bit and then removed the bottom screwes that hold the motor in and managed to get the fan motor out with fan attached to shaft. i also think that i had to remove a small electrical box from the far right near the door to gain the clearance to do that. i then swaped and reversed the process. it was not easy but i did it in like 30 min + yelling at the dash while layin upside down and sweating. good luck cause its a bitch to take all of it out of the car.
Damn that sounds like a byatch.......I need to replace mine, and was planning on doing it tomorrow.

the reason that i changed mine by the way is not because it was broken but because there is a plug in the fire wall on the passenger side that was removed by an audio shop to run a power wire for an amp that i was unaware of. the wire later got removed and the hole was never pulgged, hence leaving a nice entrance for a mouse to get in the car while covered in the winter and make the heater fan cage into a nice place to nest. the only thing that stopped him from traveling throughout my whole heating system was the fact that the evaporator served as a door to bind him to only making a nest in the heater box.... little to his knowledge would some big human jump in the car in the spring and rip the heat on high to make sure it still worked, chopping his *** into peices..... but i got the shaft too cause not only did i get pelted in the god dam face with like 4 months worth of acorns, dirt, dust and pine needles, i also had to go through the trouble of taking it out to clean and change the chewed fan. i have since plugged the hole and hate mice.
or you can just remove the glove box and reach in the white box with a 8mm wrench and remove the piece that is connected to the blower motor. then just pull out the blower motor
