My 91 hatch si doesn't start . It was working perfectly until yesterday I tried to start it up and the engine did not turn at all. I checked the battery (cleaned the terminals) and replaced the main relay and still nothing . Lights and radio turn on. What else should I check???

can you hear your fuel pump priming?

 

Yes fuel pump comes on, I doubt that would be the problem since the engine does not crank, if it was the fuel pump then it would turn over.

sorry i missed that the engine was not cranking have you checked your grounds?

 

Resolved!!
The clutch pedal has a small button on the upper end that when pressed it touches a switch that allows current to go to the starter. The button crumbled into little peaces (very old plastic) so I replaced and it works. Same thing happens to the brake pedal button and the brake lights stay on.
