swapping pistons
I have a high compression all motor setup
i learned the hardway that N/A on hondas is fun, but doesnt make the power a turbo will... so im contemplating takeing my pistons out and putting in some forged lower compression pistons. Right now i have JE forged High compression.
Could i simply take the oilpan off and drop the pistons from below, and attatch the new pistons onto the rods and then slap the turbo on? or will the motor need to come out? Do i need to get any machining done to change pistons?

no you have to pull the head the pistons wont go thru the bottom end. If im wrong someone correct me but u will have to bore and hone it and probably get over sized pistons so that you have the proper clearance needed for the piston rings to seat right. I see you also already have a hight comp setup so im geussing you already had it bored and honed before. So unless u already had it resleeved that might be something in your near future.
So whenever you replace pistons, you have to have it honed and bored?
Couldnt i just get the same size pistons as are in there now and just drop them in?

ive heard of people jus honing it so they dont have to pull there block but i think its ify cuz that makes your piston to cylinder wall clearance great than it should be but thats jus my 2 cents about. im sure a few other people will give there opinions about it.
well, i got a set of pistons put in and machined and everything less then a year ago, so shouldnt it still be fine just to throw some pistons of the same size in there?
pistons can go out the bottom of the engine, but it's worth investing in an engine crane and stand. Your work is not trivial so better to have it out of the car.
you usually have it honed, but not necessarily bored, depending on the condition of the cylinder walls.
Ask some engine builders here in HT for details

ok how exactly is he going to do that the crank is in the way for one meaning he would have to pull the tranny then the crank and if your that far u might as well pull the block and you have to use a piston ring compressor to put the pistons in i have yet to see some one pull pistons from a honda thru the bottom

if u want to chance it pull the head then crawl up under and pull the oil pan and rod caps n what not and make sure u label each piston and bearings so u put them back in the same place. Pull the pisonts take them to a shop to have the new pistons on then ur goin to probably have to shave the piston rings your self then hone it and make sure u cover the crank. That probably a cquick run thru of a way to do it but i wouldnt.
bro if your going turbo get it done right. Thats all im sayin. Im sure later on today some other people will give u some good input. Ive rebuilt a few motors and on most of them the cylinder ways were slightly warpped so they had to get bored and honed out. It doesnt cost that much. i payed about 160 to get my head cleaned up new seals and everything and 3 time certs put in on my exhaust threads and they charged about the same thing to bore n hone my block and put the new pistons on my rods. So about 320-350 for machine work.
