Default How to get A2 cams to work in an A3 head

Here is the how I got the K20a2 cams to work on the K20a3 head. You need the K20a2 cams (or type-r, tsx, crower...), K20a2 rockers and pins, and k20a2 rocker shafts. The pins in this picture are how they come in the A2 head

You have to switch the pins in the left and middle rocker like this picture

This locks the left and middle rocker together so that the middle rocker will not bounce around due to the cylinder head not having the lost motion spring.

This makes the left valve always ride on the vtec lobe and the right valve rides on the non-vtec lobe. When vtec is engaged by the solenoid it locks all three rockers together the same way the factory does and you have a regular working vtec.

Thank you

So this would actually allow for i-vtec engagement instead of the measly vtec-e engagement?

so wait - just to clarify things up here - both the A2 intake cam and exhaust cam can be installed into the A3? If that's true, why not just by an A2 head swap?

Why buy the whole head when all you need is the cam?

u need more than just the cams to get rid of the clearance issues the A3 has with the rocker arms and the lost most assembly spring (as stated above) will cost almost the same as buying the A2 head if u buy everything new from the dealership because it's kinda of hard finding those parts for cheap!

if you really analyze things closely, it is a great mod (almost like a breakthrough). However, there seems to be a downside to it also like money-wise as well as the difference between this and the A2 head-swap! I'm still trying to figure out if this would be as disappointing as the head-swap!

You can either put type-s springs and retainers or use aftermarket titanium retainers and dual valvesprings. I used inlinepro titanium retainers and dual valvesprings in mine because I plan on reving it to 9k with the turbo set up.

I started out with the k20a2 kal in the hondata and tuned it from there. It was very easy to tune and only took about an hour. It was just as easy to tune as any other k-series. It liked having the vtec set really low. I started out at 4900 and ended up at 3500 because thats where it made the most power.

Hmm, I wonder what it would take to get LMA's to fully work on the a3 head... or am I a few years behind?

although, to make the extra power you have to revv way past the stock a3 redline. sounds like supporting internal mods are required to run this setup safely.

Most likely it would be beneficial to add stronger valve springs. they are usually whats used with hondata on the k20a3. the s2000 valve springs would probibly do the trick. I'm sure aftermarket valve springs would work as well.
