should be like 18-20 ft/lbs...just dont make it too tight, I've cross-threaded, then snapped a few

hand tight is fine

Whoa there muscles, I'm surprised you haven't snapped more than a few with those torque specs. Just go 7.2 lb/ft (got that out of a Helms manual). If you work on your car, you should definitely get one of these.

Here we go again...

I would not torque your valve cover nuts. Unless you have a pretty accurate 1/4" torque wrench I would not even bother. Just snug them down with a 1/4" ratchet.

I can't even remember how many people have broken studs from trying to torque down these nuts. Most torque wrenches are VERY inaccurate at this low of a torque value.

Some things need to be torqued and some don't. Valve cover nuts are one of the things that don't need to be torqued. Main cap bolts, cam cap bolts, rod bolts, and motor mount bolts are some of the bolts/nuts that need to be torqued. Good luck.

BTW, kf_Type-R is correct on the 7.2 lbs-ft torque value.

7.2lbs/ft sounds right. I would use a 1/4inch torque wrench to install. also, there is a certain torque sequence for these bolts to prevent head gasket leakage and they should be done in steps. this also out of the helms manual.
