manual start civic
i have to ground out my starter to get my car to start, when i turn the key nothing happens, but when i turn it to start and then pop the hood and touch metal to where the wires go into the starter it starts right up... what could be the problem???

It sounds to me like you're saying that in order to start your car, you need to jump the starter.
If this is what you're trying to say, you may need an ignition switch.

Your post is confusing to me. If your grounding it out which I think you are then you have a bad ground. If your touching the terminal to a positive source then its propably the starter relay under the dash on the left lower side of the piller, or a messed up safety switch.
Get a manual and trace the circuit till you find the proplem theres not a lot there.

Careful "grounding" your starter or whatever you are doing. That is a lot and a lot of amps running through there. A lot more then is needed to kill you if you accidentally ground it through you.
thanks everyone, i wasnt grounding out my starter i just bought the car for a grand and it was night, but in day light i could see i was jumping it like someone said, i looked under the dash and saw the clutch switch had a wire ripped out of the harness so i fixed that and it starts right up thanks again
