Default Help me figure out this noise in my head...

Here is a movie of what the noise sounds like. Yes it quicktime, its the only format i could do

http://home.comcast.net/~linda...4.MOV

I just replaced all my LMA's today, the new ones are in in this video, 8 ITR LMA's, we checked my valve clearance, and adjusted what need to be.

THIS IS BAFFLING me i how no clue what it is, its not rod knock because it goes away at high rpm's and it changes pitches, well it sounds like it to me atleast. car still pulls fine. compression tested at 200 across.

PLEASE help me figure this out before i encur any long term damage. Or do i just need a buy a new head?

TIA
Matt

edit: its the fast paced ticking noise i'm wondering about.

What was the engine temperature when you checked the valve clearance? Have you tried the screw driver to the ear trick to isolate the noise origin?

engine wasnt HOT, it wasnt cold either. closer to cold than anything. but we put it to .007 intake and .008 exhaust.

One of my intakes was at .15, could that have damaged a rocker arm and this is causing the tapping?

When you pulled the cams, did any lobes appear to be excessively worn? Could that sound be an injector (hard to tell with sound file)? I think the screw driver is going to lead you to the source.

We unplugged each injector, and the noise stayed the same. the lobes didnt appear to have any wear what so ever on them. a screw driver put it inbetween #2 and #1 intake side.

Have you checked the rocker arm clearance on those two cylinders? Check to see if they are loose on the rocker shaft.

BTW: you can run the car briefly with the valve cover removed to better isolate the noise. Please be careful as to what you touch while the engine is running.

Do you think the a VTEC rocker could be worn enough that it has free travel between the camshaft and the LMA? (It could be worn on the top or the bottom.) I do not think that there is a spec for that. Perhaps an inspection will reveal much greater free travel for one of the rockers.
