Default 6TH Gen Accord I4 Auto Tranny death

Well it has happened to me. 2nd gear has committed suicide. My car has 106k miles on it and the warranties and everything are null. Heres my question:
Whats the best thing to do at this point?
It drives angry as hell and i dont want to damage my engine (i havent been driving it for about a month now). They want $3400 for a remanufatured tranny from honda or $1900 for a rebuild at the transmission shop. Either way Im definitely getting screwed. I basicly want to know what transmissions will bolt up to the F22 from the 6th gens without much (preferably no) modification. Please let me know so i can drive myself.

Did Honda disallow you consideration? Or is it you didn't ask?
Although their "Owner of record" letter of 06/02 extended the warranty of "Certain" '00 and '01 Accord transmissions to 100k, they have been stepping up to the plate on '98 and '99's as well and offering partial consideration.
They are asking for maintaince reciepts and some indication of at least one trans fluid change during the review process.
It may be worth your effort to call Honda as soon as possible. They just might cut that estimate in half. Just put your Smiley Honda Owner Face on when you talk to them.
Your 6th gen has a F23 under the hood.....

honda wanted 5K here for a new trans install

I paid 3.2K for my trans on a V6

Good luck with that......

Don't forget that this would be an ideal time to do an auto to manual swap, from what I can tell the cost would be less than your lowest quoted price. My '99 Lx sedan is a 5-speed manual (from the factory), I love it.

I completely agree The 6th gen auto trannies are junk, but the f23 manual transmissions are very strong. My auto tranny is going out on my 98 Accord and so far the prices for doing the manual swap are very similar to going with a rebuilt auto.
Good luck

Yeah i knew that...moment of retardation i guess.

Looks like im just going to get a rebuild on my autotrans from the tranny shop. Dont want to dump too much money into this accord because my true toy is my 1993 prelude that im swapping. Need a fuel pump for it though...

Thanks for the help guys
