I have a 2000 Accord LX-V6 with 48,000 miles. About six months ago, after the front brake pads were replaced, the dashboard brake light began to behave strangely. It stays on when cold, but then goes off after 5-10 minutes of driving. I checked the fluid level and it is OK. The light then operated normally for several months. I just checked the brake fluid level last weekend, and it was fine, but ever since the light comes on for the first 5-10 minutes when the car is cold.

I thought that only three things would trip the dashboard brake indicator: 1) parking brake; 2) brake pads; 3) fluid; 4) brake light bulbs burned out. It doesn't seem to be any of these. Any thoughts?

 

Sounds like the float in the brake resevoir is sinking when cold. See it very frequently in 6th gen Accords. It will probably stop doing it once the weather starts to warm up. Then start again in the fall. Replace the master cylinder cap to fix it.

X2. The reason why is the float becomes saturated with brake fluid and no longer has the ablity to float and gradually sinks into the brake fluid.
