OT: Who here has "Permaplated" their R?
Just wondering if anybody on the board has permaplated their R... I have, and am due up again soon, as soon as my car is done... My question regarding it, was if I put my Spoon stickers on the door and such, will the permaplate affect their adhesiveness, or will it take them off?
it is overpriced but I think sometimes they offer some kind of guarantee, like if anything happens to your car's finish, they will fix it. That's how it is for Sodomiz...er, Simoniz.
Well my main question is, will it take my stickers off, or affect them in any way? If I put them on and then have it permaplated again?
Permaplate is bogus and the guarantee is equally bogus. Friends of mine have it on their car and when they complained that the paint on the hood was in worse shape after one year than the paint on the hood of their four-year-old non Permaplated car, the dealer said that the wear did not look too bad to them and that they would do nothing about it.
It is pure dealer profit.

It wasn't my call to have it done to my car... My father knows it isn't the greatest, but got a good deal from a friend of his on it.... Will it take my stickers off?!
If you must, definatley apply wax to your paint before applying any type of stickers....(uggh stickers) it'll make removal of the stickers that much easier.
Perma-plate is a scam, save your money and just buy some good wax like Mothers or Meguiars.
I had a negative experience with Perma-plate industries...failure to back up their warranty. The Perma plate was applied to the car before I bought it and I submitted a claim to them, a bird had dropped a bomb on the roof, which ended up staining the paint bad enough to require the roof to be repainted and you guessed it, Perma-plate "weasled out".
If you have the opportunity, try to be there when the guys in the detail shop apply whatever Perma-plate packages you're getting. Generally they just slap the stuff on as quickly as possible, they're not to picky about "quality work". Most detail guys only get paid $5-10 per car...it may be a little more for a Perma-plate job, but still they're going to bang it out as quickly as possible.
Pema-plate=lining the F&I guys pockets

LOL...tough to get a straight answer, heh? Like the last poster said, it is probably better to put the stickers on before. BUT, if my understanding of the permaplate process is correct, you can let them do it, then before you apply the stickers, apply rubbing alcohol or a mild abrasive (Like 3M Swirl Mark Remover or Meguiars #9 2.0) to the area to remove the permaplate from that area.
And, since nobody told you before, Permaplate is a waste of $$ and will likely do more harm than good.
