Default I need your opinions of this VQ35DE intake manifold design

Hey,
I'm building a custom intake manifold for a project I'm working on. I've got the flange and the bottom of the plenum mocked up but I'm looking for opinions on the top half/lid of the intake manifold. I'm wanting to build a carbon fiber top half w/ a 3" CF tube coming out of the rear of the RH side and curving toward the RH front that the throttle body would mount to.

I kind of just want a half circle shape for the lid w/ the tube coming out of the back but I'm not sure how I'd attach it to the aluminum bottom half.

Any opinions or advice here?

thanks
allen

Here's another shot:

It's a Nissan VQ35DE w/ a 350Z tranny in a 1995 240sx.

The only way I can think of to do it is to flange both pieces and bolt them together and use a gasket between the two. Something like this:

a little off topic, but...where can you find the flex section like on that manifold.

the one spd and most high end exhaust places sell are either thin gauge stainles sor inconcel, they still tend to fail

I agree, I think I'll have to have a flange. I think I'll weld on a 1/2 wide aluminum flange all the way around to start, after I make the front and rear end caps.

I guess I just need some advice on how to build the plug and how to take a mold off of that or maybe theres an easier way. I know there's some carbon fiber wizards on here!

I'm thinking of filling it w/ expanding foam of some sort (what kind?) then carving that down to shape/size first. Then, putting down a thin layer of bondo, sanding then spraying w/ some sort or a release agent (what kind?) then layering on some fiberglass to use as a mold. Once thats cured I could pop it off and layer the carbon fiber into that mold.

Any tips?

Yes, thank you. That's very similar to what I had in mind, I've actually seen those pics on maxima.org but forgot about them. I think Top Secret's is kinda ugly really, too tall, hopefully I can pull it off a little better.

thanks!
