So I recently bought a beater for getting around and driving to work. A 91 tercel (flame away)
I got a good price on it, but it had these old crusty decals on the hood and fenders. My wife and I removed them with some plastic putty knives and a little bit of isopropal but they left horrible dark blue stains in the shapes of the decals on top of the light blue paint.
Is there anyway to get rid of these stains? So far all I've tried is a rubbing compound, but I only tried to apply it for less than 10 minutes and it didn't do anything except smear around like mud. Anyone know the trick, or is it time to get a paint job?
-thanks

This is what crossed my mind after we first got the decals off. But then I realized that the light blue color wasn't faded because it's the same color and the same consistency all over the car, even on the inside of the grill and under the bumpers. We also found out the exact color code and name of the paint, and looked up the color to verify that it matched...so no, it's not faded.
sticker- wrong forum?? where was I supposed to post something appearance related then?
btw we used goo-gone to help get the decals off. What was left on the body is not residue or film...it's a stain, and you can't feel any texture when you run your hand over the stained area.
anyways, thanks for the replies...anyone know what the deal is though??
