Default Gasless wire welding for exhausts?

I'm reading different things and can't really seem to find a straight answer. For all of you who are experienced welders, is it possible to use a gasless wire welder for doing exhausts? I'm not looking for super clean welds. This would probably be on 16 or 18 gauge steel. I read somewhere that it was difficult to weld this thin of a metal with a gasless setup. However, I'm not even sure if this person knew what they were talking about since I don't really know what I'm talking about either. I've TIG welded a whole two times in my life and it came out ok but I'm not really looking to spend that much on a welder yet. I figure a gasless wire welder would be a cheap way to get into it but I'm just concerned about how well it would work for what I want to do.
