Default car wont start help plz!

hey everyone.. ok first off... my car has been in the pushstart only mode for a little while and my friends and I were trying to find out what teh problem was... i bought a new main relay and starter but my mech thinks it is probably the ignition switch... anyways thats not the problem but i just thought id point that out haha.

the thing is the other day my buddy was driving my car and he said out of no where it just stalled in like 4rth gear... he figured ok i'll just pop the clutch he tried in pretty much every gear til he came to a stop... and weve been tryin to find out the problem... any ideas? thank you in advance

sounds like fuel pump cut out.

or alternator is dead and so is the battery.

thats what I would check first

The same thing in my CRX happened before. If it's still trying to crank (I couldn't tell if it was or not from the post) check the rotor button to make sure the set screw didn't fall off. This happens more than you think it would (know at least 3 people this has happened to). Just unscrew the distributor cap and you'll see the rotor button in the center. It is the piece that spins around to make contact to the leads on the cap. There is a small allan head bolt that holds the rotor button in place and without it, it will not spin as the shaft in the center of the button spins freely. Hopefully this is it because it's a free and fast fix. This happened to me on the way to a friends house at 12:30 at night. He had to drive 40 min. to come pick me up, while I sat in my car and smoked and cussed (after trying to diagnose it of course).

Other than that, it could be several things. It would help if you described what exactly it is doing after you try to start it. If it doing nothing, if it just spins, if it spins then sounds like its trying to start but won't, etc. That will help a lot with diagnosing it.

you should hear the fuel pump cut on (whirring sound) when you put the ignition to ACC postion (last one before you start). I believe hondas do this in order to prime the gas line and get it up to pressure briefly before you start it. Another to check is undo the fuel line before the fuel filter and try to start it. If the pump is working at all you should get gas coming out of that line.

Alternator going out could be it too. If you pull it off you could have it checked somewhere for free like an autozone or advance auto parts (they check it for free in my area anyway). And they can check the battery too. But pulling the alternator to take it somewhere might be too much work if it turns out to be a good alternator!! But the battery would be easy to go have it checked for free. But considering it cut out while driving, I doubt it's just the battery.
