No Heat or A/C
All of a sudden i lost my A/C in early October. I didn't really care that much b/c it was getting cooler but now my Heat has gone out. Are these things related and is or can it be a quick and easy fix or is it a pain. I have a 91 Lx with 111k on it. Is is just old and need a new system or is there any other ways to fix it. I know you can recharge A/C but what about heat?
Your temp control **** is probably stripped out. Just grab it and pull it off. You'll see if its cracked. Sometimes it leaves the old metal clip behind on the shaft. You have to pull that off before you put on a new ****. They are about $5 at the dealer. Your air mixture door was probably in the middle when it broke, so you don't have cold air in summer or hot in winter.
I pulled the **** off and it looks fine. When i put the temp **** to cold the air comes out at room/air temp. When i push the A/C button to on it does nothing. when i turn the **** to warm it heats up slightly but nothing like it did when it was working properly. Any suggestions to what is wrong with it? It seems like the warm air is just getting slightly warm from the engine bay being hot. The higher i make the air flow the cooler the air is.
Look under the dash on the right side of the console where the firewall meets the carpet. You will see a white bellcrank that the temp **** actuates to change the air door. Make sure the **** is fully moving the door back and forth. You can just push the lever in both directions to see if it is actuating all the way. If that is OK, look under the hood where the inlet/outlet of the heater core is. There is a bypass valve that opens and closes to control water to the heater core. It must open and close with the temp **** as well. If this is not the problem, I would remove the inlet and outlet hose from the heater core and blow water through it with a garden hose to see if the core is obstructed. If the flow is weak, alternate back and forth between the inlet and outlet with good water pressure until it breaks loose.
