Default Hissing when on brakes

I started my '90 CRX the other morning and heard a weird noise from the engine bay. When I took my foot off the brake it stopped. When I step on the brakes normal I hear no noise, but when I push the pedal as far as I can you can hear a hissing noise and the motor struggles to idle. I think I might have a leak in my brake booster and am losing engine vacume. My worry is if I have to slam on the brakes will they work or give out? So far normal braking works just fine. I hope to change to Integra all wheel disc by summer, including changing the booster and master cylinder. Can I hold out on repair until then? Could this be something other than a booster?

its probably your booster like you said. if it fails completely your brakes wont stop working but it will be really hard to stop due to the lack of vacuum assist. i would change it sooner than later.

yeah, its a vacuum leak. but it may not be the booster itself that is leaking. might be the check valve.

i wouldnt worry about your brakes "going out" if its a vacuum issue. if the booster fails, itll just make braking harder to do, but not change ultimately the force of your brakes. the booster is just a pneumatic assistant.

sounds like a vacuum issue. I had the same problem with mine! but mine wasnt slow, it happened quite rapidly. I was on my way home from work and i hit the brakes at a red light and heard a loud hissing sound and at he same time my foot went to the floor. should b an easy fix 4 ya. good luck

the diaphram in your booster is bad. had that about a month and a half ago. just replace the booster. should take you about 45 mins!
