yeah i dont know about getting one from a junkyard. I dont know if they give warrantys on As-is items? hrm... dont think so. BUT i had my fair share of alternators on my d series motor when it was in the car and i kept going to the junkyard and getting used ones and they go out within a year. I would just get a new one with a warranty online. Best bet man. Just think about it. If you get a used one. It goes out in a year, then you are back at where you started... just a waste of money ya know? I would just go snag a new one online. Hope that helps ya out. Just letting you know from my stupid mistakes since i have been in the same position you are in right now about a 2 years ago.

The local Pick-And-Pull offers a 30 day warranty at extra cost. In fact, you don't even need to have a reason for returning the part. And the part you get if you exchange does not even have to be the same one. And finally, you can buy the exchange policy on each item bought with the credit.
