North American JDM Del Sol SiR?
I'm looking at buying another Del Sol. I had one in the past but, stupidly, I sold it. Now I am craving one again. My buddies friend has what he claims to be a 94 Del Sol SiR. Built in japan as a JDM car but brought over by Honda and converted to left hand drive. Aswell as being made emmisions legal. The car has a B16A3, and a blue japanese identification plate on the rad support. It also had side marker turn signals, a factory short shift kit, and tan seats. All of what was just mentioned is supposedly stock. Have you guys ever heard of anything like this car? It seems to look the part.
Your friend has a Del Sol VTEC with an EG2 blue engine badge riveted on the radiator support. Well, does the car have a transtop? Does it have a gauge cluster that has a 180 KPH speedometer?
This guy is full of it. btw b16A3 is a usdm motor. if it was jdm it would be a B16A. So that would mean it would have to be a jdm del sol with a usdm motor, left hand drive conversion. I don't think so...

why would honda bring over one of its jdm cars to the states and then procede to do a lhd conversion to it? doesn't make sense. also, it isn't particularly difficult to install or have someone install side markers on a car so don't put too much weight on that. just my .02 good luck finding a sol.
your friend was either lied to himself, or doesnt know what hes talking about. double check the cluster to at least see if they switched that out to make it look jdm.
New JDM strategy, tell everyone your car was JDM, but some Japanese guy put US-spec parts on it, swapped a US engine, and only forgot to swap over the shifter and radiator ID plate.
Its like a JDM sleeper... It looks like it "might" be JDM, but you never know 'till BAM he hits you with the story about how....

every single jdm b16 are labeled b16a. b16a3 is udsm motors, and what would be the point of bringing the frame, and converting everythign including the motor? he is full of ****. he could have at least put a b16a int here before he attempted to lie to you.
First off, all Del Sols were built in Japan. LHD, RHD, doesn't matter, they were all built there.
Second, as others have pointed out, the B16A3 designation is for a USDM motor, not a JDM motor.
Third, as others have pointed out, it's likely the guy just swapped in a few JDM pieces into his USDM car.
In short, it looks like the guy got partway into a mad-cool JDM restoration, didn't finish it, and is trying to pawn the result off on you.
I wouldn't pay an extra penny more for it than I would any other USDM Del Sol. Find the original VIN, either on the engine, on the door panel, on the dash, wherever, and find out what kind of car it was originally, then offer him cash based on what the car was originally. Maybe the guy knew what he was doing and legitimately turned an S into a VTEC, but if not, do you really want to buy an S for the price of a VTEC, only to find it doesn't entirely work right due to a half-assed swap?
